Legacy

The episode begins with a shot of the desert as one hellish sand storm is approaching. You hear Gabrielle ask, "What was wrong with staying on the coast? There was sun, surf, sand..." as they appear out of the sand storm. Xena retorts, "You got two out of the three." As Gabrielle answers, "We were supposed to relax remember?" Xena tells her, "We had bad luck, going in land didn’t have to be this way." Gabrielle sarcastically retorts, "No deserts don’t have to be dry, windy and desolate Xena...it’s optional. I can’t see anything." They are both battling the windstorm by covering their faces with their clothing along with trying to guide the horses through the storm. Xena tells Gabrielle, "Here take my hand," of which Gabrielle, asks, "Do we even know where we are going?" and Xena says, "Do we ever know where we are going?" She leads the horse forward along with Gabrielle.

We are next treated to a wonderful hot tub scene! They are both trying to clean the sand out of every orifice know to mankind and Xena says, "Don’t say I never give you anything, sun...sand..." sarcastically and teasingly sprinkles sand on Gabrielle who smiles and splashes water in Xena’s face replying, "surf," and laughs. Xena says, "That was a little unnecessary, uncalled for," As she moves towards the side of the hot tub and Gabrielle is laughing. She begins to climb out of the hot tub saying, "Alright, I’m pruning, I’m out of here." We get to see a nude side shot of the gals and a full backside shot after they climb out of the tub.

They are getting dressed and Gabrielle observes, "Strange beauty to the desert." Xena begins to button her shirt and says, "Do look for the beauty in everything don’t you?" Gabrielle smiles and says, "Why does it sound like an insult when you say it?" Xena turns smiling and says, "Well maybe not everything." Gabrielle turns to her smiling, "Yeah, well sand up my wahzoo gets me a little edgy." Xena agrees, taking her hair down and says, "Hate it when that happens." They hear men’s voices yelling and horses neighing and decide to go check it out. They ride up to find a group of people being surrounded by nomads. Gabrielle suggests that they even the odds and Xena agrees as they ride down the slope to help the people out.  The outfits they have on are great! Perfect for a desert scene and they look great blowing in the wind as they gallantly gallop on their (black for Xena, white with a touch of gray for Gabby) horses to help out.

They help to defeat the nomads and as they are fighting one nomad is very intrigued and impressed by Xena and Gabrielle’s fighting prowess. We get to see Gabrielle gallop up next to a nomad and jump off her horse taking him with her to the ground. You go Gabby! After they finish fighting and the nomads run off the leader...Allison Bruce (formerly Melosa) isn’t pleased by the fact that they helped out. She’s not happy with them interfering. Gabby isn’t pleased with their ungratefulness and says, "Come on Xena," as she starts to walk away along with Xena. The leader draws her sword along with the rest of the group angrily asking, "Who are you to take that name? Xena the legendary warrior princess is long dead." Xena is surprised and says, "No she’s not." They don’t believe it and Gabrielle tells them, "This is Xena." The leader replies, "Impossible," in stunned disbelief. Gabrielle tells her, "No it’s just hard to explain." The leader sarcastically says, "I suppose you’re Gabrielle the battling bard of potadeia?" Gabrielle smiles, impressed with what she just called her and says, "I’ve never heard it used that way, but yeah I’m Gabrielle." The leader still isn’t convinced and her group is still standing on guard with their swords up. She says, "You’re both lying." She sees Xena’s chakram and says, "I guess that’s suppose to be the legendary chakram?" Xena is standing with her arms crossed over her chest and condescendingly replies, "Suppose to be," with a smirk. The leader still isn’t convinced and says, "So you have a chakram...huh...it means nothing. You didn’t use it in the battle." Xena replies, "It wasn’t necessary." The leader is angry and accuses, "You are a coward and a fraud. Only the real Xena knows how to use a chakram."  Xena doesn’t know what to make of it and turns to Gabrielle who holds out her hands and says, "Show her," which Xena does.

The chakram hits a rock, then the group’s swords rendering them useless, flies up in the sky and returns to Xena who catches it. Well, she decides to show off a bit by tossing it behind her and kicking it up with her foot as she sticks her hip out for the chakram to fall on it’s hook. The leader is very impressed as is her group and yes, she finally believes its Xena. They automatically drop to their knees and bow to Xena who’s shocked, bewildered and surprised by their actions.

The scene ends and they are in the group’s camp. Xena and Gabrielle are sitting in the tent and people are bringing them gifts, and food as a way of paying homage to them. Gabrielle asks Xena, "So this is the desert hospitality that I’ve heard so much about?" Xena answers, "That’s right, though the fact that they worship us could be influencing the welcome a bit. Don’t refuse anything, you’ll insult them." A woman brings both of them a bowl of food...well, cooked, freeze dried or raw insects to eat...I’m not sure how they were prepared, but they looked nasty. I did see a scorpion in there. Gabrielle and Xena are disgusted as they check out the food. Gabrielle asks, "What is this?" and Xena sarcastically says, "Something yummy," as she’s checking out some insect to eat with a disgusted look on her face.

The leader approaches and bows before Xena and Gabrielle. Xena acknowledges her, "Kahina," as she attentively looks at her. She happily informs her that she sent word that they will help to defeat their enemies. Gabrielle asks if it’s the people they fought from earlier in the day and she explains that they are their rivals, but the enemies that she’s talking about come from across the seas. She explains that they have invaded their lands and have killed many of their people and that Xena knows them. Xena replies, "Romans," of which she answers, "Yes," and Gabrielle replies not too happily I might add, "Some things never change." Kahina explains that every time fellow tribes try to ban together to fight against the Romans, more feuds break out amongst them and she thinks that uniting might be impossible. She tells Xena that with her leading them she has renewed hope. Xena and Gabrielle aren’t too pleased about dealing with the Romans...can you blame them? Xena tells her, "Thanks for the compliment..." and is interrupted by Kahina who tells her, "We’ve grown up on the stories of your victories, there’s nothing you can’t do, no place we wouldn’t follow you." Gabrielle interjects, "Stories?" and Kahina says, "Of course, your scrolls. We were brought up listening to them." Xena bows her head at the comment as if the accolades are too overwhelming to believe. Kahina looks at Gabrielle and asks, "Surely you knew Gabrielle."  Gabrielle answers, "I had no idea they’d come this far...I’m pleased." I might add she is very pleased by the smile on her face. Xena looks solemn and glances at Gabrielle, "Alright...we’ll help you defeat the Romans," as she looks back at Kahina.

Kahina is very pleased and claps her hands up and at the side of her head ordering her servants to bring wine to honor their guests. Two heavily bearded men approach and bow before Gabrielle and Xena as Kahina stands behind them. She says smiling quite eagerly, "Of course our tradition is one of hospitality and my cousins would be honored to take you both to bed." The two burly, gold-toothed men are very pleased by that and Xena looks horrified by the offer. Gabrielle smiles and leans over to Xena with her hand hiding her mouth. She sarcastically asks, "What was that you said about not refusing anything?" as Xena stares at the two guys stoically and strains a smile as the scene ends. Very funny scene and what a great line by Gabrielle. Loved it!

Xena and Gabrielle enter their tent and Gabrielle asks, "Do you think those guys bought that Amazon chastity oath I made up?" as she holds the tent open for Xena who enters and walks past her sarcastically replying, "Oh, I think they were hanging on every word of Gabrielle the battling bard," as she hangs up her sword and chakram with a grin on her face. Gabrielle chuckles and says, "I think it has character," with a big grin on her face as she lays out a rug on the floor. Xena turns to her and replies, "Yeah," as she’s kneeling down to the floor. They both lay next to each other and Gabrielle sarcastically says, "I wish I had a dinar for every time I heard Xena the legendary warrior princess." Xena answers, "Bet you do," as she lies back grinning. Gabrielle retorts, "I think you’re loving it," as she covers herself with a blanket and lies back next to Xena. Xena is laying with her arms resting behind her head, her knees bent up with her feet planted on the floor and is smiling and laughing moving her legs together and apart. She answers, "Sure what’s there not to love? Aah...it’s just that these people need help and if anyone knows Romans we do." Gabrielle is lying on her side with her back to Xena and agrees, "I’ll say." She pauses briefly and asks, "Xena do you ever have those moments in battle where you have to decide whether to disable someone or to kill them?" Xena asks, "What," as she turns to look at Gabrielle who asks, "Don’t you ever think about it?" Xena tells her, "You just have to trust your instincts, that’s all." Gabrielle asks, "What if your instincts are wrong?" Xena sits up on her elbows and looks at Gabrielle worriedly replying, "If you’re going to stop and debate that you’re going to get hurt," before lying back down. Gabrielle lies reflecting upon their conversation and what she has done in previous battles as the scene changes to the rival’s camp.

Xena, Gabrielle, Kahina and her group ride up. Kahina asks if he’s ready to join her and Tazere, the leader, tells her to show the myth she is talking about. Xena dismounts her horse replying, "Watch who you’re calling a myth," and approaches them. He asks his son if this was the woman he saw fighting earlier and he eagerly explains how well she fights. He says, "I could hardly believe my son’s crazy tail, but maybe the prophecies are coming true after all." Gabrielle looks at Xena confused and he replies, "Come, we welcome you," as they all follow him to his tent. He explains that the Romans come in great numbers and overwhelm any resistance as if they are trying to wipe them off the face of the earth. Gabrielle is sitting away from the group and Tazere’s son Korah is kneeling at her feet as she’s drinking something. He is very impressed by Xena and Gabrielle’s fighting skills and tells her he dare not aspire to be as good as Xena, but he sees intelligence and restraint in her fighting skills, telling her he’s going to model himself after her. Gabrielle is embarrassed by all the attention and he is impressed by her Sais. She tells him that they can kill someone and he asks if she will teach him how to use them. She tells him she will if that’s what he wants.

He eagerly asks if can wash her feet and Gabrielle protests saying, "I don’t think you want to do that." He’s insistent saying, "It’s a custom, please may I?" as he takes her boot off and Gabby doesn’t have much more to say except, "Okay...if you must." She laughs as he begins to wash her feet. She’s definitely digging it and somewhat embarrassed by it. Xena says, "Gabrielle," and sees her getting her feet washed and doesn’t have such a pleased look on her face as she rises grabbing her weapons. Gabrielle grins and stands up grabbing her boot along the way, stopping before Xena. Xena tells her, "Let’s go check out the town, find out what the Romans are up to." Kahina, Tazere and Korah vehemently protest and Xena tells them, "Hold it, Gabrielle and I can handle this. Everyone else stay here." Quite adamantly I might add. I was afraid to shift in my seat after that comment. Xena passes Gabrielle who follows her replying, "Just need to put this on," referring to her boot as they head out of the tent.

Xena and Gabrielle are riding the horses towards the town and Xena asks, "What’s with the desert boy?" with a twinge of jealousy, in my opinion at least. Gabrielle smiles answering, "He wants me to teach him how to use the Sais’" Xena replies, "He’s picked a great teacher." Gabrielle looks at Xena then ahead and smiles, happy about the confidence Xena has in her and replies, "It’s kind of strange being thought of as a warrior more than a bard...I guess I’ve come a long way." Xena looks at Gabrielle, "Is that a good thing?" Gabrielle looks forward then turns to Xena, "Yeah, it is." They look at one another and continue riding into town.

We see Xena and Gabrielle walking into a Roman occupied building. Xena is dressed like royalty and Gabrielle is dressed as a slave. Gabrielle grins and says, "For once Xena I would like to be the Roman noble and you be the slave."  Xena grins slightly as they enter the chamber where Roman governor is looking at a scroll. She explains she’s the wife of a royal nobleman and wants to find out if this place is a profitable place to invest their money. He has a change of heart from the sound of money and welcomes her as she sits down. He explains that they have set up a profitable trade route protected by the forces of Rome. Gabrielle asks, "Protected from what...the nomads?" as she stands behind Xena like the faithful slave girl. He explains that they fight more amongst themselves and Xena asks, "What if they were to unite?" Guard steps forward saying, "There’s on chance of that, they spout old stories of Xena, Caesar’s Thracian whore, and wait for a legendary warrior to rise out of the sand and lead them." Gabrielle asks, "Are you concerned?" and he arrogantly answers, "Concerned? About a long crucified annoyance?" as he chuckles cockily, "hardly." Xena chuckles, playing the part...she absolutely hated the comments regarding her. Sounds like that guard is in for a payback!

The governor explains that her money will be safe with them as at that moment three legions are preparing an offensive to pacify the ethnics once and for all, saying, "Call it a cleansing if you will," with a wicked grin. Gabrielle adds, "It seems over confident if I may say so." The governor looks up at her, "You seem a little outspoken for a slave," and looks at Xena grinning, "I think someone needs to be punished," as she stands towering over him while he sits before her guaranteeing, "Oh, someone will be, I promise. Thank you governor, you’ve been most helpful," with a smirk as they leave.

On their way back another treacherous sand storm hits them and they have to walk the horses through it. Gabrielle suggests that they stop and Xena tells her she’ll get covered over if she does and to keep moving. Gabrielle falls behind as she’s trying to cover her face with her clothing and her horse knocks her down. They are calling out to each other and they can’t hear one another. Xena is frantically searching for Gabrielle, but can’t see or hear her. Gabrielle looks up and tries to focus; as she does she sees a figure raise their arm up and sees a knife in the hand. Xena’s back is turned to this person and Gabrielle panics. She grabs her Sais and charges the clothed figure. We see that the person is carrying a scroll, but Gabrielle doesn’t as she’s running toward them. She knocks them to the ground just as they approach Xena who turns around to see what’s going on. The person is disoriented by what is going on and turns around facing Gabrielle as if they are swinging at her, she drives one of her Sais into their stomach and realizes it’s Korah, Tazere’s son. She’s devastated by what she did and Xena says, "It’s a scroll," when she sees it fall out of his hand. Gabrielle in disbelief asks, "What have I done?"

The scene changes to Xena and Gabrielle sitting back at the hot tub area with Xena cleaning Gabrielle’s hands. Gabrielle is stunned and in shock. She says, "I never thought I’d see this," as Xena worriedly looks up at her asking, "What?" Gabrielle answers, "Washing blood off of my hands." Xena lovingly wipes her hands and looks up at her, "I never thought I’d see it either."  Gabrielle is very upset and there is an awkward pause between them. Xena picks up the scroll and informs Gabrielle that Tazere and Kahina have finalized their peace treaty. Xena puts her hand on Gabrielle’s shoulder and tells her, "I want you to go back to Kahina’s camp and wait for me there." Gabrielle looks up at her and asks, "Where are you going?" Xena informs her, "To take him home," as she moves her hand off her shoulder. Gabrielle tells her she’s going with her. Xena tells her to let her explain it to them, but Gabrielle is upset and adamant about explaining it herself. Xena tells her she’ll have a chance to explain to them, later and walks off.

Xena takes Korah back home and of course; Tazere is devastated and informs them someone will die for what they’ve done to his son. He accuses Kahina’s group and she denies that they’ve had anything to do with it. He attempts to kill Kahina, but Xena intercepts him. She tells him she saw tracks where he was killed of a thousand men, a mile away. Kahina explains that her people would never leave a grain of sand out of place. Tazere suggests that the Romans did it and asks Xena if she saw them, which she denies saying, "No there was a storm." He’s kicking himself for being so foolish and sending his son with the message. Xena informs them that the Romans are coming in several legions and that they have to hit them before they are ready. He’s pissed saying he will have justice for his son as they’ve cost him his son and that he will slaughter them all with his bare hands.

Gabrielle is sitting and waiting for Xena to return. Xena finally does and Gabrielle gets up to face her asking, "How’d it go?" Xena flatly answers, "Not good," of which Gabrielle replies, "I should have gone with you. I’ll talk to him Xena," as she approaches her and Xena stops her saying, "No, it’s more complicated than you think." Gabrielle answers, "Xena it’s not complicated, it’s simple. I killed Korah." Xena tells her, "The penalty for that is death." Gabrielle bows her head down, then looks up at Xena, "I accept that." Well Xena is having none of that! She angrily says, "Well, I don’t. What purpose would that serve? It can’t bring Korah back now can it?" Xena looks desperate to save Gabrielle.  Gabrielle isn’t pleased with Xena and says, "Xena that man out there deserves to know the truth," of which Xena informs her, "He thinks he does, he thinks the Romans did it." Gabrielle is shocked and asks, "Did you tell them that?" Xena explains, "It was an accident, let them believe the Romans did it, they have to fight them anyway." Gabrielle is pissed and shouts, "I can’t lie about this," and Xena tells her, "You don’t have to lie," as we hear Kahina shout out Xena’s name. Xena is near tears and desperately pleads with Gabrielle, "Please, I beg you please don’t say anything," in a whisper as Kahina continues to shout her name and pulls the tent back. Gabrielle grits her teeth angry by everything as Xena turns to Kahina who has entered.

She informs Xena that they’ve spotted Romans in the desert and that they’ve sent out a patrol. Xena tells her that they need to find out where they are and lure them into a trap. Kahina is very eager to do battle with them and for Xena to lead them into it, just as her men enter with a Roman prisoner. Gabrielle is beside herself and can’t take much more of this, she has to tell the truth...she can’t hide it any longer. They are convinced that he is the killer as his spear still has Korah’s blood on it. Kahina tells them to take him to Tazere as Xena tells her that just because he’s a Roman doesn’t mean he’s the killer. Kahina tells her she has all the proof she needs with his weapon and orders them to tie him and drag him into Tazere’s camp. Xena angrily and adamantly states, "Hold it! To kill a man to protect your home land is one thing, but to pick out a Roman at random and execute him for a crime that he may not have committed that is something else." Kahina tells her, "If it wasn’t him, it was someone just like him. Come with us Xena you’re one of us now." Gabrielle is in tears and has her hand on her face and finally snaps, "Wait!" Xena turns around horrified, she knows what Gabrielle is going to do and doesn’t want to accept the consequences of what’s going to happen to her beloved Gabrielle. Gabrielle is breathing heavily and responds, "He isn’t the killer...I am."  Xena’s not too pleased and stares at Gabrielle as she stares back at her dark lover.

The scene changes to a close up of Xena who is livid and has a fowl look on her face. She asks Kahina, "Where are they taking her?" Kahina tells her they are taking her to Tazere’s camp. Xena turns to her and walks towards Kahina telling her that Gabrielle doesn’t deserve to die and Kahina reminds her that neither did Korah. Kahina is very disappointed with Xena telling her she lied to them and Xena tells her, "Yes, I lied and even if you were to kill Gabrielle the Romans would keep coming." Kahina says, "Then they will, we can’t follow you now." She’s devastated that her hero Xena lied to her and heads for the exit before turning back informing Xena, "Tomorrow at dawn, she dies," exiting the tent. Xena stands there speechless as the scene ends.

Gabrielle is shackled next to the dead body of Korah as Tazere enters the tent asking, "How does it feel?" as he kneels next to her and his dead son’s body. Gabrielle asks, "How does what feel?" and he answers, "killing an innocent?" Gabrielle admits, "It’s unbearable." He tells her, "He admired you and you slaughtered him," as he looks down at Gabrielle who says in a whisper, "No, I..." but is interrupted by the back of his hand across her face. Oooh, Xena isn’t going to like that if she finds out. He tells Gabrielle who is shocked, "If I would have known the snake you were I would have struck your head off and my son would still be alive...murderer." Gabrielle doesn’t know what to say and just stares at him as he exits the tent. Gabrielle moves her arms within the shackles as if she’s trying to find a way out of them and looks at the candles before her and begins to reminisce about her past.

This was a fabulous scene with flashback scenes of her telling Lila she wants to be just like Xena, of her being in the cage with the Cyclops looking at her, of her learning to use the staff as Argo turns and looks at her strangely, when Xena pulls her up onto Argo for the first time in ‘Sins of the Past’, the scene of her as Xena from the ‘Greater Good’, of her treating a patient in ‘Is there a doctor in the house?’ When Perdicus dies and when she’s holding a sword to Callisto, but can’t kill her. They are using voice overs from all the episodes of Gabrielle and show a clip of her first kill, her throwing away her staff with Eli telling her to follow the way of love she has to do so with all her heart, the campfire scene where she tells Xena that if anything happens to her she has to promise not to become a monster, the clip of her from ‘Ides of March’ killing the Romans to save Xena, of her walking with Eli saying "You’re preaching peace and Xena and I have swords in our hands", then moves to the battle scene from ‘Amphipolis Underseige’ with her saying, "Sometimes the only answer is to fight," and the clip moves to "Who’s Gurkhan" where she tells him if she kills him he wins and she becomes like him and moves into the earlier conversation she had with Korah about her Sais and the whole death scene when she killed him. There is a close-up shot of her eye and you see her tears run down her cheek. She’s crying and turns her head upward saying, "Xena you once prayed never to see the light go out in me. I just don’t think there’s much of this left in here. This is best for everyone." She looks back down to the candles. The scene moves to Xena who is laying on her side looking at some candles and turns onto her back, trying to figure out how she was going to get her precious Gabrielle out of this one.

It is dawn and time for Gabrielle to face the music. We see Xena head off on the horse and then the men lead Gabrielle to a hole where they throw her into and begin to bury her. Xena goes back to the Romans, playing the noblewoman telling them there is something she can do for them. Tazere’s men are playing a game of polo with the skulls of other condemned people as Gabrielle is watching. Xena informs the governor that the nomads are joining forces and that it could lead trouble for them. He tells her it’s a minor annoyance and she tells him one he could avoid if he knew where they were gathered. He tells her true that their legends could use a diversion. They clip back to Gabrielle who is still neck deep in the sand as the excited polo players are lining up to use her head as the ball. They begin to charge her and she looks terrified...of course!

Gabrielle’s conquering hero throws her chakram and shops off their sticks, as they get closer to her. They stop and Xena rides up to Gabrielle as someone sounds that the Romans are approaching. She grabs Gabrielle and helps her onto the horse as everyone is scattering around yelling. Xena and Gabrielle are standing on a ridge looking at the Romans who are setting up camp. Gabrielle says, "Saved by the Romans, I would have bet against that," and Xena dryly answers, "It took them long enough." Gabrielle is surprised and turns to Xena, "Xena?" Xena stares at the Romans explaining, "I needed a diversion." Gabrielle replies, "Last night I thought letting them kill me was the best for everyone."  Xena turns to Gabrielle replying, "Gabrielle you may never forgive yourself for what happened," placing her hand on her shoulder continuing, "but you’ll be a stronger person for it." Gabrielle answers, "I don’t know." Xena sincerely replies, "I felt that way once. I felt there was nothing left to live for...I was tired and hurting and I just wanted it to end." Gabrielle asked, "What changed it for you?" Xena answered, "You did," with a smile. Gabrielle looks down briefly then says, "I guess we’ve come full circle huh?"  Xena smiles knowingly and says, "Come on," as she leads Gabrielle away.

They approach as the nomads are standing around in a valley wondering what to do. Xena tells them, "You’re out of time and out of options. Now that they know you are here they’ll hunt you down until you stop them." Kahina angrily asks, "You expect us to trust you now? Why should we?" Xena snaps back, "You’ve got no choice." Gabrielle adds, "We could have rode in the opposite direction." Tazere angrily asks, "Why didn’t you?" Gabrielle answers, "Tazere, your son’s blood is on my hands and it will be as long as I walk this earth. I can’t change that, but I can help these people win their freedom. Maybe his death will have some meaning then." He’s having a hard time accepting that and Xena adds to Kahina, "And I promised you that I would help you defeat the Romans...I keep my promises." Someone announces that the Romans are coming and they have no choice but to accept their help. Xena instructs the group to move it and they leave the area.

Xena asks Tazere, "You said the sun has to be in this position?" He answers, "Yes, that’s how we know when one is coming." Someone yells the Romans are coming again and Xena instructs them to get covered up. Kahina says, "We don’t have enough people even with a surprise." Gabrielle replies, "You have Xena what more do you want?" Kahina accuses, "Funny how the Romans showed up just in time to save your friend. Almost like it was planned." Xena angrily answers, "You got the fight you wanted, stop complaining," and walks away as Gabrielle approaches Kahina.  She glares at Gabrielle and tauntingly asks, "You left a few details out of the stories didn’t you?" as she walks away.

The Romans head into the area where they are all buried and a treacherous sand storm hits them. Everyone jumps out of the sand and attacks the Romans. Tazere is knocked down by a soldier and is about to be killed as Gabrielle runs up and defeats him, saving his life. By the way, Gabrielle is back to using her staff to fight again. Xena has the pleasure of fighting the guard that called her the Thracian whore of Caesar’s and tells him, "Tell Caesar Xena sends her regards," as she plunges her sword through him. We see all the dead Romans being covered up by the sand storm.

Everyone is thanking Gabrielle and Xena by the campfire later on as Gabrielle asks, "Do you think they’ll succeed against the Romans?" Xena answers, "They’ve got a good chance, the deserts a powerful weapon in their favor." They are walking towards a rock to sit on and Gabrielle says, "For awhile there, I didn’t think the day would end so well," as she takes a seat with Xena doing the same next to her. Xena smiles, "Neither did I." Gabrielle smiles and shakes her head saying, "You saved me today Xena against the greater good." She holds her hands out wondering and asks, "Why?" Xena turns away and looks down as Gabrielle asks, "Isn’t that what we’ve been fighting for?" Xena explains, "Gabrielle in everyone’s life there’s something that goes beyond the greater good...that’s what you are in my life. I wasn’t about to let you die out there if there was something I could do about it." Gabrielle asks, "What if it was my choice?" Xena turns to Gabrielle with a smirk and says, "Especially if it’s your choice," and turns as Tazere stands next to her. He looks at Gabrielle and says, "It seems I’ve traded Korah’s life for my own. That evens the scales between us." Gabrielle looks at him smiling, shaking her head and asks. "It doesn’t really does it?" He looks at her and answers, "He could have become a great warrior...just like you," briefly staring at her, before walking away as Gabrielle smiles. Gabrielle looks down and asks, "Just like me?" Xena turns and looks at her smiling and lovingly puts her hand on Gabrielle’s shoulder lightly rubbing it as they fade to black.

A very good episode filled with the playfulness and wonderful, loving interaction we love so much between Xena and Gabrielle. I loved the flashback scene and the one where Xena tells Gabrielle that she changed everything for her when she was at a point in her life of giving up. It was such a touching and wonderful scene. The episode shows all the love and caring Xena feels for Gabrielle and to what extent she will go through to protect Gabrielle. The scenery and the costumes are great in this episode. I’m sure you will enjoy this episode a great deal. Next week we get to see Gabrielle on the Barbie as a group of savages have a taste for human flesh and she’s the main course!

Enjoy the episode!
