Dark clouds loomed overhead and the rain poured down in sheets.  The wind whipped furiously across the plain.  Thunder crashed with a deafening roar.  Lightning flashed to reveal two figures walking along a dirt trail that had long ago turned to mud.

"I hope we find shelter soon.  I'm soaked!" said the short blonde girl.

Gabrielle's usually bright and cheerful mood had dampened with the storm.  Now, she was in a thoroughly cranky mood as she trudged through the rain and muck.

          "So do I." replied Gabrielle's raven-haired companion.

The sky had been dismal all morning.  About two hours after they had set out, the storm had hit.  Xena's eyes scanned their surroundings, but to no avail.  The land was flat and barren without so much as a solitary tree or cave to provide shelter.  So, they trudged on.

Gabrielle yawned.  Rainy weather always made her sleepy.  Her eyes drifted shut as she walked beside Xena.  She tripped over a stone and fell sprawling into the mud.  She was jolted awake as her face landed in the cold mud.  Xena began to laugh as the bard slipped and struggled to stand.  Gabrielle grabbed a handful of mud and threatened the warrior.

"Not a word, Xena.  Not a word." she said grumpily.

Xena stopped laughing and pulled the muddy girl to her feet.

"You're exhausted, Gabrielle.  You ride Argo for a while."

"Xena, you know Argo doesn't like me.  She'll throw me off as soon as I get on!"

"I'm here.  As long as I'm here, she'll behave herself.  Now, up you go."

Gabrielle reluctantly allowed the warrior to help her into the saddle.  Argo snorted and bucked, but soon quieted under Xena's hand.  They traveled on.  They could barely see through the driving rain.  Finally, in the distance, the warrior spotted a cave.  She headed toward it.  Soon, they entered the dark cave.  She stood beside Argo and gently shook the sleeping bard.

Wake up, Gabrielle.  Time to get down.  We're making camp here."

Gabrielle moaned, stirred, and opened her eyes.  She looked around.

"Where are we?" she asked sleepily.

"I found a cave.  We'll stay the night here." Xena replied, taking the bedrolls from Argo's saddle.

The bard dismounted and began helping the warrior make camp inside the dimly lit cave.  Xena spotted some wood piled at one end of the cave.  She went over to check it.  It was dry.  Apparently, they weren't the first to seek shelter in this cave.  She took some of the wood and soon had a fire burning.  They stripped out of their clothes and donned light shifts.  Then, they spread their clothes next to the fire to dry.

The young girl began preparing a meal.  But, she was unable to concentrate on her cooking.  Her eyes kept roaming over her friend's muscular body.  Xena was feeding Argo.  She could feel Gabrielle's eyes on her.

'Is it possible?  Does she feel the way I do?' she asked herself.

After feeding Argo, she turned and froze, her breath stopping.  There was Gabrielle, bending over her pack.  Xena had a clear view of the bard's perfect breasts down the top of the loose fitting shift.  She closed her eyes, wanting to burn the image into her brain.

'My sweet bard.  If only I could tell you how I feel when I'm near you.'

          "Hellloooooo?  Earth to Xena!"

The warrior opened her eyes to see the vision of loveliness that was Gabrielle standing beside her, waving her hand in front of her.

          "What?" the warrior asked.

"I said the food is ready.  You okay?" the bard said with concern.

"I'm fine.  Just tired.  I'm going to eat some of your wonderful cooking, then hit the hay.  I'm beat."

Gabrielle beamed as Xena, Warrior Princess, acknowledged her culinary talent.  This was unusual for the usually stoic warrior.  The bard thought that Xena had been acting strange, friendlier.  While she had always acted friendly toward her once they had gotten used to each other, the warrior had never acted like this.  It was as if she was looking for any excuse to touch the bard, to be near her.  Xena was protecting her like a mother hen.  While the dark woman had always protected the smaller blonde, she had never gone to the extent that she had been the last couple of months.

'Could it be,' thought the petite blonde, 'that she shares my feelings?  If only it were true!'

As they sat next to the fire, eating, Xena couldn't help stealing glances at the bard when she wasn't looking.  They ate in silence.  After she was finished, the warrior rolled up in her blanket with her back to Gabrielle.  But, she couldn't sleep.  Her mind kept picturing the bard's breasts as she was bending over her pack.  How they hung down, how they were perfect.  Of course, she had seen the girl nude many times, but it had never affected her as deeply as it had these past months.  It was becoming harder and harder for the warrior to bury her feelings.  She wanted desperately to tell the young girl how she felt, but was afraid that Gabrielle would think her sick and perverse and leave her forever.  She couldn't bear that.  She would die if she ever lost the bard.

She could hear the low scraping of Gabrielle's quill moving over parchment as the bard sat by the fire, writing another one of her stories.  She hated the way the bard embellished their adventures, but, those stories had gotten them dinars when they needed them, so she didn't complain too much.

She tried to fall asleep, but it was useless.  Her mind kept drifting to the bard.  They way she moved.  The sweet sound of her voice.  They way her golden hair glowed in the bright sunshine.  Everything about Gabrielle captivated her.  In an ever-changing world, Gabrielle was the one constant.  The one who always put others before herself.  Xena never noticed when Morpheus claimed her.  She slept.  She dreamt.  Her dreams were of Gabrielle.

The bard glanced up from her writing to stare at the warrior.  She was not afraid to get caught staring, since Xena had her back to her.  She just sat, drinking in the sight of the dark warrior.  She felt another pang of despair for a love that could never be.  All the times she had pleasured herself, she had always been thinking of Xena.  Imagining the warrior's caresses, her kisses.  She felt herself growing wet.  As if it had a mind of its own, her right hand dropped the quill and moved beneath her shift.  She slowly began to stroke herself.  Her clit throbbed and pulsed.  She was shocked.  She was giving herself pleasure just a few feet from the sleeping warrior!  She had always gone into the woods to do this.  She had never been brave enough to try it so close to Xena, that she risked discovery.  But, she was too aroused to stop now, so she continued.

She inserted two fingers into her dripping center, and began to thrust in and out slowly, imagining that the fingers inside her belonged to Xena.  She could feel her climax approaching.  She increased the tempo and came with a muffled groan.  She quickly covered her mouth with her free hand to muffle the ecstatic groans that came from her.  She wiped the tears out of her eyes.  She straightened her shift and picked up her quill and parchment and began to write again.

A sudden crash of thunder made Gabrielle jump.  But, the rumbling continued.  At first, she was puzzled.  Thunder never lasted that long.  Then, it dawned on her what that sound was.  Rockslide!

          "Xena!" she shouted, jumping up.

The warrior jumped up, sword in hand, scanning the small cave for the cause of the trouble.

          "What's that sound?" she asked.

          "Rockslide!" Gabrielle exclaimed.

Xena shooed Argo out of the cave while Gabrielle grabbed their packs.  They ran for the entrance, but were too late.  The opening was completely sealed off in a matter of seconds.  They were trapped.

Xena sheathed her sword and rushed over to the opening.  She tried to clear a path, but the rocks wouldn't budge.  She turned back to Gabrielle.

          "We're trapped." she said grimly.

"Now what?" the bard asked worriedly.

"I don't know, but we have to put out the fire.  We have to conserve as much air as possible.  We might be here awhile."

The young blonde put out the fire, then felt her way back to the warrior in the dark.  She gripped the muscular arm and felt Xena pat her hand reassuringly.

"Why don't you get some sleep?" she suggested.

          "Okay."

Gabrielle felt her way to her bedroll and lay down.  She closed her eyes and soon drifted off to sleep.  Xena paced nervously.  The only way out was through the blocked opening.  She knew their air would begin to run out soon, but there was no way to move the boulders that blocked their path.

She sat down to think.  They couldn't survive long in here.  Their water was  low and air was even lower.  She couldn't die like this.  Not without telling Gabrielle how she felt.  After some time, the bard stirred and awoke.  She sat up.  They were still trapped.

          "Xena?"

"Right here." the warrior replied from next to the girl.

          "Still trapped, huh?" she asked.

          "Yeah."

Xena took a deep breath.  This was it.

"Gabrielle, I need to tell you something.  This is hard for me to say, so please, no interruptions until I'm done."

"I've developed feelings for you.  Deep feelings.  I'm....I'm in love with you.  I've tried to bury my feelings, because I was afraid to tell you.  Afraid of losing you.  Now, that it seems like the end, I just had to tell you my true feelings.  There, I said it.  Do you hate me?"

Gabrielle sat quietly for a few moments then spoke.

"Xena, I could never hate you.  The truth is that I'm in love with you too.  Have been since that first day in Poteidaia.  But, I was afraid that you would think that I was some kind of pervert and want me to leave you.  It took a lot of courage for you to tell me how you feel.  I love you all the more for that.  Let's not keep anything from each other ever again.  I love you Xena."

The young woman heard a muffled sobbing on her left.

          "Xena?  Are you crying?"

"Yeah.  I'm just so happy that you feel the same for me." the warrior replied between sobs.

The bard groped around in the dark  until she felt the warrior's hand.  She clasped it tightly.

"We'll always be together, Xena.  Always."

Xena gently kissed the blonde on the cheek.  Gabrielle turned her head and felt her lips come in contact with the warrior's.  Electricity shot through her body at the contact.  They kissed tender kisses, their tongues slowly dancing with one another.

"Xena, make love to me." Gabrielle whispered.

The dark woman gently lowered the bard onto the bedroll.  She began kissing every inch of exposed flesh.  It tasted as sweet as she had always imagined.  She heard the young girl whimper softly and convulse under her lips.  She had waited so long for this moment, she wanted to take it slow and burn every wonderful moment into her memory.  She pushed the straps of the shift off of the girl's shoulders, exposing those perfect breasts.  She began to massage and squeeze them.  Though it was too dark to see them, she felt them swell and the nipples harden under her palms.  The young girl whimpered a little louder this time.  Xena's center ached with arousal.

Gabrielle arched under the warrior's mouth.  Gods, how long she had wanted this!  Her only regret was that this would be the only time that they would get to share each other.  The bard knew the end was near.  The air was already growing stale and their food, already low before they ever found the cave was almost nonexistent now.  They had planned on stopping at a small village north of here to renew their supplies.  Their water was gone.  They couldn't survive more than two or three days at most under these conditions.  The young woman gasped as she felt a tongue run along her engorged bundle of nerves.

Xena relished the taste and musky scent of her new lover.  Gabrielle certainly could get worked up.  Her womanhood was soaked with her arousal.  The warrior lapped up the juices greedily.  She felt the girl tense under her and knew that her friend was close.  She took the hard nub in her mouth and sucked hard and steadily, while flicking her tongue across the tip.  The bard climaxed with a scream that echoed though their small prison.  Gabrielle jerked and convulsed as her climax overtook her.  She couldn't stop cumming.  All through her orgasm, Xena never stopped her ministration to the erectness in her mouth.  She released it only when she felt the bard relax and go limp .  She worked her way back up the lithe body beneath her and kissed the woman passionately.

Gabrielle threw her arms around Xena as she felt lips press against her own.  As they kissed, the young girl reached down and cupped the warrior's firm ass and gently squeezed.  The warrior let out a groan.  With a movement that caught the dark woman off-guard, the blonde flipped the warrior on her back and sat straddling her.

"Your turn, my love." Gabrielle said seductively.

The girl took Xena's shift in both hands.

"You won't be needing this." she said as she tore the fabric from the older woman's body.

She immediately attacked the dark woman's breasts.  She savored the salty taste of her friend's nipple as she suckled hungrily.  Without taking her mouth from the hard flesh, she moved her hand between Xena's thighs and began to stroke the warrior's vulva slowly and softly, pausing ever so often to insert a finger or two into the dripping cave and thrust.  Xena was so close.  The mere thought of the bard making love to her after all this time was almost enough to drive the battle-hardened warrior over the edge.  With great effort, she was able to hold back her rapidly approaching release.

The warm moisture and gentle suction left her breast only to be replaced by the same treatment on her sex.  Gabrielle sucked and licked greedily at the juices Xena's arousal offered up.  She never imagined that her warrior would taste this good, or that the scent of the dark woman's arousal would intoxicate her so much.  She wanted nothing more than to drive her lover over the edge and into bliss.  She didn't have to wait long.  With the combination of Gabrielle's attention to her womanhood and her own excitement of  at last living out her most guarded and precious fantasy, the warrior climaxed like never before.  It seemed to drag on for eternity.  At last, she collapsed back to the ground with a satisfied sigh.  The bard crawled into her arms and kissed her gently, cradling the muscular form to her.

"I love you, Xena." Gabrielle whispered quietly.

"I love you too, Gabrielle.  Even death will not separate us." the warrior replied solemnly.

They dressed and settled themselves down for some much needed sleep.  As they lay in each other's arms and tried to give in to Morpheus, they heard a muffled shout.  They looked toward the entrance of the cave.  Suddenly, a beam of sunlight shone through the darkness.  They were on their feet at once.  The patch of light grew bigger and bigger until they could see the outline of a man at the entrance.  They squinted as the sudden brightness drove sharp needles of pain through their eyes.  The man stepped into the cave and they immediately recognized him.

"Hercules!" Gabrielle exclaimed, rushing to the man and capturing him in a strong embrace.

"You two all right?" he asked in concern.

Xena walked over to him and clasped his forearm in the warrior greeting.

"We're fine thanks to you.  But, how did you find us?" she said.

"You can thank Argo for that.  Iolaus and I were passing through when we saw her outside the cave.  We knew that you couldn't be far away, so we stopped to see you.  Argo kept nudging at the cave entrance.  That's when it dawned on me that you were inside.  We moved the rocks, and here we are."

"We owe you our lives.  Thank you." the warrior responded.

"You would have done the same for us.  I'm just glad to see you two safe." Hercules said with a smile.

"You wouldn't happen to have any food would you?  Ours is gone." Gabrielle asked hopefully.

The warrior and demi-god broke out into laughter.

"Not even the threat of death could rob Gabrielle of her appetite!" Xena teased.

They went outside and the two women sucked in lungfuls of fresh air.  They reveled in the warmth of the sun that they thought they would never feel again.  After eating a large meal and drinking water, they sat and talked.  Neither of them mentioning what took place in the cave.  Later, they gathered their gear and the four adventurers sat off on the road, talking and laughing happily.
