Alternative Ending

   “No!” Alex screamed out. “NOO!”

Camille thrust the wooden stake in her chest. “This is for you Robyn…” she said. Robyn watched in awe as Camille began to dissolve slowly from the toes to the upper body. Camille turned and leaned towards Robyn and placed a kiss right before she completely disappeared.

   “No!” Robyn cried. “Camille!”

Alex screamed out loud, her voice filled with hatred and malice. “NOOOOOOO!” The dust swirls began to consume her and right before Robyn’s eyes, she finally disintegrated in the air. The minute she was about to disappear completely, she turned her red eyes to glare at Robyn. “…You’re mine.” She said softly as she vanished.

Robyn finally got back onto her knees, and she looked around. The room was now dark and the curtains were torn. Broken pieces of wood and other things lay around the room. Robyn slowly crawled to where Camille once stood upon and quietly sobbed. Camille had died to save her from Alex, and all Robyn could do was watch. “Noo! Camille!” She cried aloud. “Camille!”

But the silence in the room only made her sob harder. For the first time ever in her life, Robyn truly began to cry, not because she lost Camille, but because she lost a piece of her soul. She had just found Camille, and was just beginning to realize the true nature of her feelings when Camille died. For a long time, Robyn had trained herself to shut herself from emotions and vowed never to cry again. She wouldn’t get close to anyone enough to care they died. Her work as a writer was all she lived for, nothing else…not even Tim.

Tim already hurt her so Robyn felt little sadness towards his death. She was still bitter about what he did to her, but still…she felt sad towards Tim. But this was nothing compared to the death of Tim…this was Camille, someone she finally…truly cared for. She hadn’t shown any signs of liking Camille yet, inside she couldn’t deny something was there. Losing Camille felt like she lost a piece of her soul…True that they hadn’t known each other very much, but neither did Romeo and Juliet when they first met. When they first met, there was like…an instant bond between them. Robyn couldn’t explain it…it just happened like that. Crying softly, Robyn’s body slumped on the floor and she lay there, finally falling asleep.

The sun snuck in the room through the open window of the room. It was already the morning after Camille’s death. Robyn yawned and stretched her arms and for a moment, she didn’t remember why she was there at all. Then she remembered everything and feeling quite horrible, she got up on her feet…not wanting to live at all. Camille was dead, and so was she…not literally but spiritually.

Picking up the phone, she dialed for a cab to take her home. Her eyes, already worn from crying, were glassy and filled with nothing. She made her way outside and met the cab as it arrived in the drive. “…993 Valde Apartments.”

Soon enough, she arrived home. Paying the cabbie twenty bucks, she slowly trudged down the hall to her door. Then she plopped down on the couch, nothing seemed worth living for anymore. Her stories didn’t seem to all that important anymore…not after Camille. This was where it all happened; right here in the room she was in. Where Camille went from being Camille…to Alex, the dark one…the day that would completely change Robyn’s life. Absolutely nothing would be the same at all…never would be. Finally she made her way to the kitchen and her eyes set on a pair of kitchen knives. She picked them up and examined them. They were really shiny…and clean. Maybe…maybe she’d see Camille again. Camille might be waiting for her up there…Robyn thought, it was just not worth living the rest of your life knowing you lost the only person you loved. No one would be able to replace Camille and uh, from what Robyn felt…unlike her previous relationships, this one was very special and different. Yes…Camille must be waiting for me, Robyn thought. She’d see her again…real soon. “Hold on Cam…I’m coming.” She raised the knife to her throat and closed her eyes…about to press the knife through. But then something grabbed on to her hands and pulled it down.

“I wouldn’t do that…” A familiar voice drawled. “Wouldn’t want to leave me all alone…”

Robyn’s eyes instantly opened and in front of her, standing casually by the counter and holding the knife she once held, was…Camille! “Camille??” She said startled. “…but how?”

“…Well…the ring actually.” Camille smiled and scratched her head. “Don’t know how but it saved me at the last moment. It melted into my skin and now…it’s a part of me. But uh…I can’t say for Alex…she’s gone forever. The dark ring she held is destroyed forever.”

Robyn stood there quietly as Camille told her. Camille swallowed, “Um…? Well?”

And Robyn suddenly threw her arms around Camille and embraced her in a tight hug. Camille, surprised, but then brought her own arms around Robyn and returned the hug. Robyn began to sob quietly; “I thought I lost you…” and Camille held her.

“I love you, Robyn Gabrielle Connors.” She whispered in her ear. “Always and forever. I will never leave you, not even in death.”

~THE END~ (Better than that tragic end of Romeo and Juliet, huh?)
