Part Two

“…I’m Robyn Gabrielle Connors.” She introduced herself.

“Robyn.” Camille repeated. “That’s a nice name.”

There was silence between them, and then Robyn spoke up. “Uh, do…do you want to grab some thing to eat?”

“Sure.” Camille said. They walked over to the red Eclipse that Robyn owned, and drove to Starbucks. Robyn drove to the drive-thru window and ordered a Latte with whipped cream, while Camille ordered a Decaf. They parked the car and she switched the engine off. Camille and Robyn just sat in the car, drinking their coffee variations.

“So…what you do for a living?” Robyn asked.

“Security stuff.” Camille answered. “You don’t mind if I smoke?”

“Go ahead.” Robyn took another drink. “I’m an English professor at Mulaberry College, and I write books.”

“Really? Hmm, did you happen to write the Hero series?” Camille glanced over to the blonde. “It was by Robyn G. Connors.”

“Busted.” Robyn laughed. “Yeah I did write that…did u read it?”

       “Hell ya. I loved it!”

       “Really?” Robyn raised an eyebrow.

“Yes. Will you autograph my hand?” Camille held out her hand and a pen. Robyn took the pen and signed it. To Camille, my heroine. “I ain’t gonna wash it…” Camille held her hand up as if it was precious. They laughed.

“What a lovely ring. Where’d you get it?” Robyn had noticed a gold ring on Camille’s middle finger. It had a dragon’s head with ruby eyes and a sword through a symbol that looked like the Chinese Yin and Yang on it. Engraved on the ring was a single word; Eternal.

“This?” She held out her hand. “This is a ring I got in Europe. They called it a Rhine ring, after a Nordic myth about a Ring of power.”

“Ooh, the one about where a small evil creature found the Rhine maiden’s treasure…and forged himself a ring with powers?” Robyn eyed the ring carefully. The dragon seemed like it had a scowl on it’s face.

         “Yep.”

“Shit.” The cell went off. Robyn grabbed the phone, “Yes…this is she.”

Camille sat looking out the passenger’s window. She found herself thinking about Robyn a lot. The way Robyn smiled, and brushed away her hair seemed so familiar. Like somehow, Camille knew Robyn from somewhere. The very thought of Robyn would bring strange emotions to Camille and she fought it as much as she could. It was funny though, when Camille talked to Robyn, she felt at ease…like she’d been talking to Robyn all her life. At top of all that, Camille could not deny that there was something about Robyn that seemed to make Camille want to get closer and closer to her.

Stop it! Camille tried to exorcise the thoughts from her mind. She’s no one…don’t become all stupid over some silly feelings. She wasn’t about to ruin her whole future over this now. There was no way that Camille and Robyn were ever gonna …uh, know each other better. Camille was just someone who rescued Robyn from the freaks. Period.

“Hello? Hello?” Robyn was waving her hand in front of Camille’s face. Camille became aware that a blonde was attempting to get her attention. “Oh! Sorry I was thinking about stuff.”

“Can I drive you somewhere?” Robyn asked. “That was my boss getting on my shit again, I have to go home and read the e-mail he sent three days ago…”

“Oh ok…just drop me at Rodesbury.”

Aries threw a chair through the abandoned building’s windows. “Y’all ain’t fit to be vampires…obviously! No woman should best a vampire! Y’all need to be fixed in the head…”

“Fixed in the head?!? We ain’t the ones who ran away without giving it a shot!” Riley shouted back. “We fought and fell, while you just ran off like a chicken!”

“Enough!” Aries roared. “None of us should even have been beaten by a mere human woman! We’re gods of this world, damn it!”

Monique spoke up, “Um, maybe she’s just like us?”

“Impossible, we would have sensed our kind…unless…” Aries’s expression changed abruptly. “When she looked at me, that face, I think I’ve seen that face before…”

“That right?” Riley put his arms around Monique. Aries whispered, “Yes…yes, it all adds up. Tall, black beauty and eyes…eyes that pierces your soul…”

“What the fuck you babbling about?!?” A vampire grunted angrily. “Of course she ain’t no human, she’s one of them damn demon hunters!”

Aries turned to face the vampire. “Shut up you idiot. Riley, I propose we spy on this woman.”

“No way! That’s suicide!” A vampire stepped forward. “No way we ain’t gonna go after that freak!”

“Shut up! You don’t make no decisions ‘round here!” Riley snapped. “Let hear ‘im out.”

Aries started to pace back and forth on the concrete floor. “Once when I was a newly made vampire back in the old days, we vampires were united under the greatest evil and the most powerful warrior of all times. She called herself the Conqueror.

She was one of a kind. No one, not even an army of vampires could defeat her in battle. Such was her strength and power, she was unrivaled. Under her, we conquered one town after another, feeding on those pitiful humans as they screamed for mercy. Then of course, she shifted her focus to Kings and seized over ten thrones by the time the world began to realize the existence of demons. I was proud to serve as personal consort to her and she would always lay her eyes on me and I would feel them pierce my dead heart. I was allowed to call her by her true name, Alex. She was like a goddess to me, and I would gladly die in her name. I admired her passion, her power, and her fire…

Then, she began to become obsessed with weaknesses. We vampires were vulnerable to certain things like the sun, holy water, and a wooden stake through the heart. She wanted to rid that, to become even more powerful. She wanted to be a true warrior without any weaknesses, so none would even stand a chance at all. But we weren’t sure such a power existed, it seemed like a fairy tale dream for every vampire. But not her, she began to shift her focus to a Nordic legend that consisted of a gold ring with such powers. The Conqueror began to set out on a journey to get the ring, by herself. And that was the last I had seen her.”

“Wow…”was all Riley could say. “And you think this woman we encountered was her?”

“The Conqueror is known to have a dragon symbol on her left arm.” Aries explained. “That is why I propose sending Lee to spy on her.”

“W-what the? No way! You can’t be serious, man!” Lee backed away. “No way…what if she catches me?? I just frickin’ put my arm back in place!”

“Shut up!” Riley grabbed Lee’s shoulders, “You’re gonna do what Aries says, and that’s that.” Then he turned to face Aries, “If she is who you say, what then?”

“Then our dreams are about to come true.” He smirked.

Baby, you always mine…Mine…you is mine…” The radio clock sang. It was now 8:30, Saturday morning. A hand flew out from under the covers and clicked off the clock. Yawning, Robyn forced herself out of bed to the bathroom. Ouch! Oohh, maybe I shouldn’t have had drinks last night…She moaned, her head really hurt. Taking a shower, and dressing in a black top and jeans, she grabbed her keys and drove down to Vince’s Farmhouse Restaurant for Breakfast.

There, she had her usual, without the coffee of course. Caffeine wasn’t the best thing to consume when you had a hangover. Robyn had learned this the hard way unfortunately.

“Uh, the farmer’s special…and Advil please.” She handed the waiter the menu. Then she turned to watch the T.V that was mounted on a wall.

“Families and Friends of Tim Perdy John Quinton mourn his death today at eleven o clock. Beloved son and friend, he was head of Europe’s largest industry company, Inersoll Inc. He was just visiting his families and friends when tragedy struck…” A reporter was saying. “At the Moonstruck Bar, he was found by his girlfriend, dead in the stairway corridor. The girlfriend had apparently called the law enforcement, which arrived approximately at ten o’clock. We go to reporter Bradley Cain over at the bar.”

“Thank you, Marcy.” Bradley said in his microphone. “Behind me is the Bar where the incident happened…”

Robyn peeled her eyes off the screen. Memories of last night came flooding to her at once. The sight of Tim lying lifeless on the floor, bleeding heavily...she shuddered at the thought. She tried to erase the memories but had a hard time since they kept flashing back in her head.

The scars on her arm were evidence and she couldn’t deny it anymore. She sobbed quietly in her breakfast, while people who passed by, gave her strange looks but she didn’t care. The waiter came quietly and placed the breakfast in front of her, “Ma’am…are you alright?”

“Yeah. I am…thanks for asking.” She wiped her eyes and picked up her fork.

A lady with blonde curly hair and brown eyes stopped in front of her table. “Robyn? Is that you?” She asked.

Robyn looked up, and her red puffy eyes widened. “Candy?”

“Robyn!” She exclaimed. “Long time no see!” She sat down opposite of Robyn. “What you been up to?”

“Oh nothing too much.” Robyn said. The woman ordered some water.

“Are you all right? You look sad.”

“I’m fine.” She said quickly. Candy put her hand up in defense, “Ok, ok whatever you say.”

“I’m sorry…I shouldn’t have said it like that…” Robyn took some more bites in her dish. “Just …did u just hear that news just now? The Bar incident?”

“Yeah, it sounds bad...uh-oh…Tim…your boyfriend?” Candy widened her eyes. “Oh man that sucks!”

           “Yeah…”

“Well, me an’ the rest of the amazons are hitting the bars tonight. Want to come?” Candy offered. “You could see the rest of your friends.”

“Alright…I guess.” Robyn felt she could use a break from all the crap that had happened to her. Perhaps seeing her old friends would do the trick.

“Great. The Amazons will be happy to see you after all these years!” Candy was Robyn’s best friend from high school. They had hung out together often with their “Amazons”. The Amazons consisted of; Sami, Chloe, Marie, Joana, and of course, Amber along with Robyn and Candy. “I’ll follow you home and then we’ll take my bike to Sami’s place.”

“Ok.” Robyn finished her dish and pulled out some cash to pay the bill. Then she dropped a five dollar bill on the table and they went out to their vehicles. Robyn parked her car in the lot of her apartment home. Then she grabbed a helmet and they rode on to Sami’s flat.
