It was a rainy night in the city of Mulaberry. The cold splashes of the rain washed the ground with its steady tears; thunder was heard and lighting assaulted the grounds. The city shone brightly through the night air and, it was about eight p.m.  Hardly anyone was seen in the streets at all, they were all inside in their snug homes or buildings. The Moonstruck Bar had opened a few minutes ago and people were already filling the room and soon, it was busy like a bee hive.

“Hey! Waiter, get me another, thanks.” Timothy tapped his empty glass.  “Her too.”

Robyn took another drink from her tequila. “So, Tim what brings you to town?”

“Just wanted to see my favorite girl again.” He smiled, and reached over and took her hands. “Just to see you, love. Why else? Unless you thought I came to waste your time…”

“Ha-ha stop it, Tim. You flatter me.” She blushed. He chuckled and shook his head, “Oh come on…you’re cute when you blush.” He adjusted his cowboy hat and patted her hands.

“Look, I need to take a piss ok?” Tim said, “Don’t you go anywhere, or I’ll miss those emerald eyes of yours or maybe your lovely blonde hair. Wait for me ok?” He left quickly.  She nodded.

Robyn glanced over to the Blue Angels band, who had struck up a slow tempo for the couples on a small dancing floor. Tim had come back in town and surprised her at home today.  She assumed he was in town only because his assignment had taken him here temporarily. Still it was wonderful to see him again since three years ago; he had to leave her for his job in Europe. But he never forgot to send her a card and European treats every weekend.

“Listen, Robyn…I-I need to go to work…to Europe. I’m sorry. But I promise I’ll keep in touch.” Tim reached out to grab Robyn’s arms. “I’ll be back…before you know it.”

“NO Tim, you don’t get it do you? This job, is this job so important you would pick this over me?!?” Robyn screamed. “Fine then, go on…go!”

“Please…I do love you…only you! But I need that job.”

“But what about me? Huh? You think what about what I want?” Robyn demanded. “God! Don’t do this to us!”

    “Robyn…”

“Out, Tim…out now!” She retreated in the house and shut the door. Tim cast a long look at the door, turned, and walked away.’ I’ll make this up to you someday, Robyn…I promise,’ he thought. ‘I’ll come back, three years from now, and I’ll prove to you that I love you always.’

And here she was waiting for him to return from that trip to the bathroom just like having to wait until he returned from Europe.

The waitress had returned with a tropical red wine and placed it in front of her.

“I-I’m sorry this isn’t my order.” Robyn tried to hand back the drink, but the waitress smiled, “Compliments from the lady over at the bar counter.” Robyn was surprised; she hadn’t expected anyone to order her a drink already. There were over ten women sitting at the bar counter but one was staring straight at her. She guessed that one sent this drink. This woman was tall and attractive with deep blue eyes and shoulder length raven hair. There was something about this woman, that didn’t feel normal; like her eyes seemed to be penetrating in your own very soul every time she looked at you. She felt very uncomfortable about this woman, but at the same time, Robyn felt a sense of some connection to her.

She winked and Robyn felt a chill run through her body. She averted her glance back to the drink. ‘Don’t look...for we all could know she could be one of those sociopaths you hear about on the news.’ She nervously thought to herself.

It had been over thirty minutes and he hadn’t returned. Robyn’s eyes scanned the entire room and failed to find him. What if something was wrong? Did Tim leave without her knowing? Robyn hoped not. “Excuse me,” She asked a man who had just come out the bathroom, “Have you seen a guy, with a black cowboy hat and leather jacket?” He shrugged his shoulders, “No uh, but I seen somebody with cowboy boots go in one of the stalls, if that helps?” That was him, all right. Tim did wear those ridiculous boots today, she remembered.

                 “Thank you…uh?”

“Riley. Glad I could help a miss out.” Riley shook her hand. “My Monique’s waitin’ for me.”

“That’s all right. S-sorry to have taken up your time.” She went back to her seat and took another drink from the tropical wine. Why the hell was he taking so long in there? Robyn hoped that he would walk out that door any moment soon and they could just get out as soon as possible, this place was already getting boring. If this was one of Tim’s ridiculously long episodes, then she assumed he should be out about five minutes.

“Hello there, sweets.” A voice purred from behind Robyn. “What’s a lovely girl like you doing out here all alone?” A man about average height, dark hair, and sporting a goatee moved from behind her to sit in Tim’s vacant seat. “I’m Troy but people call me Aries.”

“Um, I’m Robyn.” She checked out Aries. He wasn’t too bad looking, especially in his black leather jacket but still there was something about him she couldn’t quite put her finger to.

“Robyn, hm? That’s a nice name. Say, can I get you a drink?” He offered. She politely shook her head. “That’s all right.”

“I hear you were looking for some guy wearin’ cowboy stuff? Well,” He said. “I can help you there…I seen him.”

“In the bathroom?” She raised an eyebrow. “You really seen him?”

“Yeah…uh the bathroom’s co-ed.” He shrugs. “I really think you should go check it out.”

“No, if you seen him in there, I guess he’s actually there. No need to bother him.” Robyn shook her head. “But thanks anyway.”

“No I think you should go in there anyway. Last I seen him, I don’t think he was lookin’ too good…”Aries insisted. “He was crouching over in a corner where I seen him.”

“Uh? Ok?” Robyn stood up, and grabbed her mini-purse. “I’ll go then…”

She walked up to the door and pushed it open.  “Tim? You there?” The room was a long narrow corridor with stalls on one side and sinks and mirrors on the other. She walked past several stalls which were empty; in fact, all of them were empty. Finally she came to the end of the hall, to another hall on her right…leading to an exit to the stairs. Then her eyes fell upon a black cowboy hat on the floor near a stairway corridor exit. Picking the hat up, she entered through the exit, and stepped in something wet. Looking down, in her horror was a puddle of blood, and right next to it was Tim lying spread-eagled on the floor.

“Oh my god! Tim!” She dropped to her knees and took his head in her hands. “Oh god! What happened to you?” There was blood soaked all over him and she could not tell where the wound was.

“I see you’ve found him.” Aries whispered from behind. “What I say? Said last time I saw him he ain’t lookin’ good, right boys?”

“You?!?” Robyn whirled around. “Y-you knew! That’s why you wanted me here? You…you did this?!?”

“Well no…” Riley emerged from behind Aries. “Monique and I found him in the stall all alone…no one else was in the restrooms and we were just hungry…”

“Riley?!?” She gasped horrorstruck. He smiled smugly at her horrorstruck face, “I love that kind of look...on victims…”

“Well, I got a pack to feed don’t I?” Aries waved his hand that signals the others who were behind him, to encircle Robyn. “What can I say? I’m a leader, but I need to keep my pack happy and fed.”

“Feed?? What are you talkin’ about?!? You killed Tim!” This just didn’t make any sense. Robyn tightened her arms around Tim’s body. But Aries just laughed, “Yeah, watch.” And with that, Robyn could see two sharp fangs producing from the lips of the men around her and Aries included. Then suddenly, their eyes turned white and soulless and she could see an animal-like hunger behind them. “This…does this answer your questions dear one?” Aries smiled rather deviously. “But the problem is we’re ready for dessert, and honey; you’re it.”

Robyn began to back away and whimpered, “W-who are you people?”

“Vampires, my sweet. Vampires…at least, that’s what you guys call us. But I prefer…gods.” Aries grabbed her wrist and his other hand caught a handful of hair, exposing her neck. “Hmm, I’ll be the one to claim you…as mine forever.” And he leaned forward about to close his fangs in. Robyn closed her eyes, Goodbye world…

Suddenly, Aries was thrown against his back and Robyn fell to the ground with a thud. Riley and the others quickly turned and lunged on the intruder to no luck; they were easily tossed on the ground like pebbles being thrown.

“Funny, I heard the almighty Aries gang was the toughest beat around here. I guess I must be mistaken.” The intruder stepped forward into the dim light, revealing herself. Robyn gasped; it was the woman who sent her the tropical drink earlier that night.

Aries growled and jumped to his feet. “Just who the hell you think you are?”

She glared at him and said sarcastically, “Well, I don’t know…I just felt like I needed to take a piss and there you were.”

“Why you little asshole! Jus’ cause you got a lucky hit on me an’ my boys don’t make you some kind of hero! I’ll be good to sink my fangs in your filth!” He snarled savagely at her.

“Is that right?” She threw him a dirty look. “I’d like to see you try, Aries.” Then she turned around so that her back was to Robyn. Robyn couldn’t see what was happening but Aries had suddenly looked like he had seen the devil and vanished quickly.

“Are you all right? I already called for the ambulance.” The woman suddenly was next to Robyn, kneeling at Tim’s side.

“Yea…thank you, for uh, saving me from those…things.” Robyn said gratefully. The woman extended a hand and Robyn took it. “I-I still can’t believe it, they killed Tim. He just came back from Europe…” she sobbed.

“I’m sorry, my consolations to your husband.” The woman looked away.

“Husband? Ha-ha! You wish…” Robyn wiped her eyes and sniffled. “We’re not married. We were just two idiots goin’ the wrong way. But still, he was a great friend…”

“I see…well the ambulances are here.” She guided the girl out the door to meet them.

“He’s in there…”She pointed to the stairway exit. The rescuers quickly shouted a ‘thanks ma’am’ and hurried in. It was not long before the police forces arrived and also of course the annoying news reporters.

“Hey ma’am…I’m Detective Rayne De Corvis…I’m with the Crime Scene Department…I’d like to ask you some questions.” A short stocky man appeared at Robyn’s side. “Over here, by my car.”

“Yeah ok.” She swallowed. He led her to his car and he took out a pad and began asking Robyn questions, which she answered.

                                               <><><><><><><><><><>

Camille watched as Robyn disappeared behind the squad car, and then she let a sigh escape her. It was a night neither of them would forget.  On the other hand, Camille had never done this for anyone in her entire life. It was strange…when Robyn first came in the bar; Camille instantly felt her presence and had been unable to take her eyes off the blonde.  Seeing the blonde smile, laugh, and blush invoked dormant emotions within Camille, which she thought had been long lost. It was the uncanny thing to ever happen to someone like Camille, and she was determined to find out the answer to why or how Robyn was able to awaken a side that Camille believed she had gotten rid of so long ago…

Seeing Aries with Robyn instantly alerted Camille to danger. She knew Aries and his ways, so when they went into the restroom corridor, she followed, keeping her distance. Once she was sure they didn’t suspect anyone following them, she crashed the party with the surprise element. They got the surprise sure enough and then when she faced Aries, she threatened him and gave him a look he would never forget for eternity. And she hoped that was enough to keep him away from Robyn for now. Camille stole a final look at the distraught woman and whispered, “Who are you…?”

“Yes, thank you officer.” Robyn shook his hands. “Here, my number if you need me for more information…”

Camille turned her back, and began to walk down the streets. Her deed of the day was done for today. The rain was still pouring as hard as ever, drenching her and everybody else that were outside in the rainstorm. She wanted to get as far away as possible from the scene so they wouldn’t decide to start questioning her.

“Hey!” Robyn called after her. “W-wait please!” Camille stopped and turned to face the blonde. Robyn ran up to her.

       “Hey…I-I didn’t get a chance to catch your name…”Robyn said. “I wanted to…thank you…”

Camille instantly felt warmth toward the blonde.” You can call me Camille.” she smiled.
