“I’ll
never leave you, not even in death.”
That was what I promised to my soul mate. And that is one promise I
don’t intend
“Milano ran over to…no, that’s not right,
Milano strode over to…yeah, good good…” Robyn muttered to herself. “Damn
it, I hate these writer moments…”
“Sweetie, please…come to bed. It’s late.” Camille whispered in
her lover’s ear as she came from behind, encircling her arms around Robyn’s
waist. “It’s really late...and I’m lonely.”
“Yeah yeah, just a minute there…I want to get this done.” It
had been over two years since they met in the bar, Moonstruck. Camille had saved
Robyn from Aries and his goons. Typical hero, huh? And then Aries had reversed
the personalities and reawaked Alex, the Vampire Conqueror, and Robyn had
watched as Camille destroyed herself in an attempt to destroy Alex. Robyn had
thought her world ended there and attempted to kill herself when Camille
appeared out of the blue and stopped her.
Now here they were, living together in a little house up on Roanoke St.
Robyn had reassumed her hobby of writing stories and had begun to write a sequel
series to “The Hero.” Camille had gotten a job in security, which was
perfect for her because she did indeed have inhuman strength and that helped in
many cases. Robyn still was a part time college professor, occasionally
discussing the issue of writing creativity with interested students.
“…Ok that’s it. It’s been long enough.” Camille took the laptop
off Robyn’s lap and hit “save” on the computer and turned it off. She
closed the top and placed it on the bed stand next to her and turned to face
Robyn. “Bed time, my bard.”
Robyn rolled her eyes and turned to click off the lamp next to her. She
settled in her sheets and Camille moved closer to hold Robyn as they slept on
the queen sized bed. Robyn snuggled until she was comfy and warm in bed, with
Camille. The clock struck 12 o clock, a.m. It had been a long day for the
blonde, a very long day indeed. “Night, love.” She whispered back.
Robyn was running…running from an
unseen enemy. It was dark and the sky was pitch black. She tripped over a branch
and stumbled but quickly recovered her footing. Damn, she thought frantically,
Damn…gotta hurry! But she lost her footing as soon as she came across a dead
end in the woods, over seeing a cliff. Damn, there was water crashing against
the bottom of the cliff. Robyn looked down and she could see multiple jagged
rocks scattered around the bottom of the cliff and knew it was a dangerous
journey should she fall down there.
At last the unseen enemy caught up. Robyn whirled around to face it.
“S-stop right there!” It didn’t stop, but it continued to advance slowly
towards her. “Stop!” She shouted again. “NO!” “This has to be done.” A voice said to
her as she found herself falling from the cliff. As she fell, the figure watched
her, and slowly it removed the hood that it hid in. She gasped, it was … “NO!”
She screamed out and suddenly she found herself in bed, panting. Camille jerked
awake and within moments, she was holding Robyn in a tight embrace. Stroking her
hair, she whispered, “Shh…it was just a dream. I’m here…shh.” “Damn
it…” Robyn said. “That’s the third time this week I had the same dream.
But I wake up without seeing this thing’s face.”
“I’m
sure it’s only a dream. Don’t worry too much about it. If you ask me, I
think it’s from the stress of writing that story nonstop through the night.”
Camille teased. Robyn smacked her arm and she frowned, “Hey! What was that
for?” “You’re
probably right.” She said in exhaustion. Camille was probably right. It was
just from the stress of writing her book. Maybe she needed a break from writing
the book. A well deserved vacation might be the cure, Robyn hoped. Perhaps later
in the day she would shop around for a new outfit to wear to the party that Troy
was throwing at a bar named, Isolation. Troy had opened a bar, Isolation, a few
months after Robyn had gotten the new house. It was a pretty good bar, for
demons actually. It was usually visited by demons and things that go bump in the
night, looking for just something to eat or drink the hour away. Troy had
imposed a single rule; no fighting, or no service. Pretty simple huh? This party
was to celebrate the 2nd anniversary of the Isolation and over 30
demons and some humans was expected to attend. Candy and the Amazons would play
their feature song, “Bedtime Horrors” down there also.
Quite a few humans were comfortable with the demons that went to the bar.
In fact, some of ‘em actually dated a few different demons, and not all of
‘em were human looking. In Isolation, harassment between ANYONE, including
demons and humans, would result in a no service policy. It was a pretty good and
well controlled environment. Robyn had met quite a few demons and made some
friends with them and some humans too. It was nice talking to a human friend
that hung around with demons, so she would be able to be more open to them about
her feelings. In fact, Camille’s security job was at Isolation. But jealousy
was something she could not control, especially with Camille.
“I’m gonna take a shower right now.” She said to the raven haired
beauty next to her. “Could you like…start up the coffee and some eggs?”
“Sure. Anything for you.” Camille replied. “Just don’t use up all
the water! I need a shower too!”
“In that case, I’ll stay in the shower even longer.” She said
teasingly. “Cold showers, I hear, are best for the living dead.”
“Hey!” Camille said in mock anger. “That’s not nice!” She
stepped out the shower and dried herself with the green towel. Steam filled the
bathroom and fogged up all of the mirrors. Robyn hummed as she pulled on a pair
of jeans and a black top. She brushed her teeth and pulled her wet hair back in
a ponytail. Nothing would ruin her day, she thought confidently, absolutely
nothing. She needed a flawless day badly and today was going to be it.
Finally she stepped out the room feeling the cool air blast on her skin.
“Camille?” She walked in the kitchen to find the raven haired, 6 foot tall,
blue eyed female to be no where in sight. But she saw a mug of steaming coffee
set on the table and a plate of sunny side up eggs and bacon. A note lay beside
the plate;
Dear Obsessed, I’ve
gone to Isolation to help Troy fix the place up for tonight’s party. See you
there, and do wear NOT wear revealing clothes! I don’t want these
people/demons to get their stuff on you. Your mom called, she wants you to talk
to her ASAP.
Love, Camille the Great. .
Robyn chuckled at the letter. Obsessed was her nickname with Camille
because she was obsessed with the perfection of her story. Hey, she couldn’t
help it, it was a bard thing. Camille the Great was what Camille liked to call
herself occasionally when she was in a good mood. “…and I thought you needed
a shower.” She mused to herself.
Shopping around, she had found the perfect outfit to wear. A pair of
black leather pants and a red top. It looked totally hot on her and she knew it
would make jaws drop everywhere, which it did at the store when she walked
across the room to observe herself in a mirror. Someone had whistled at her and
she smiled at him. It was not too formal or too casual, it was just right for a
fun evening.
Evening arrived quite quickly for Robyn as she pulled her red Eclipse in
front of the Isolated Bar located in a remote alley. She walked in casually and
sat at the bar counter and ordered a martini. Troy had spotted her and quickly
made his way over to her, “Hey! Glad you could make it!”
“Troy!” She hugged him. “It’s nice to see your business
booming…”
“Yeah thanks! The martini’s on the house! Have fun, enjoy!” He
winked and was instantly dragged away by a couple of demons demanding a word
with him.
Robyn scanned the room. There were many people and demons around,
chatting and laughing their heads off. Candy and her band were playing their
hits and Robyn couldn’t find any sign of Camille in the crowd. Probably was
off doing some errands in the back, she thought. Taking a long drink from her
martini, she spotted a couple of good looking demons checking her out. Smiling
back at them she turned away to her drink.
“Lookin’ lovely tonight are we?” Camille said from behind Robyn.
She moved in front of her, blocking the demons, who were checking Robyn out,
view. “…hah, you look really beautiful tonight.” She murmured softly as
she reached to smooth Robyn’s long blonde hair. “So…beautiful.” She
winked and smiled with that great smile of hers. Robyn smiled back, with her set
of white dazzling perfect teeth.
“Hey there pretty lady. Want to dance?” A demon appeared beside
Robyn. Robyn looked over at the demon in surprise and with a smile she winked at
him. He licked his lips anxiously at her.
“What? No go away.” Camille said rudely. She had seen Robyn wink at
her and instantly, she felt a bit of jealousy rise. The demon had responded with
a smile and he was about to engage her in a conservation when Camille then got
up from her stool and now he was staring straight in a pair of boobs, a sign
that he needed to gain a few inches in height soon. Camille was extremely tall
and she loomed over him as he gulped, cowering away a little. But then he
remembered he was a demon, and then he readjusted his position and scowled back
at her. The demon growled at her and tried to push her away. “I want to talk
to her.”
“No way.” Camille snapped. “You’re interrupting us. Leave.”
Robyn watched the two of them with a suppressed smile. Camille was clearly
trying to scare him off out of jealousy. She could see the green monster begin
to rear its head once again from the sack.
“What the hell’s your problem?” He retorted back. Why was this
human so upset about just a simple talk?
“You’re my problem.”
“Fine whatever.” He backed away and walked to join his friends
grumbling aloud. Camille let out a sigh and sat back down on her stool. Robyn
folded her arms, “Hey, you didn’t have to do that…he was just looking for
a chat!”
“Sure…if that’s what you think all the time.” Camille replied
pulling out another cigarette. Robyn rolled her eyes and walked over to a lone
table and ordered another martini. Camille walked to Troy who was busy serving
drinks to a couple of demons. “Hey…gimme fresh blood, no ice.” She held up
a hand for his attention. “Sure thing, Cam.” He poured a glass of fresh
blood in front of Camille and she drank it down quickly. Licking her lips she
walked to the back to take out the garbage.
Robyn sat alone at the round red table. “Hey.” Candy called to her
from the stage. “Havin’ fun?”
“Yeah. You?”
“Time of our lives. We’re glad to play for anybody…even demons.
Hey…Joane’s dating a spiked demon!”
“Cool.” She took another drink from her glass. The demon from earlier
came over and sat opposite of her. “Hello. I’m Dino.”
“Hey. I’m Robyn.” She said politely. He had black skin and there
were yellow long prickles sticking out of his head like hair, and he had red
eyes. He wore a bomber jacket and red pants; he looked like a motorcyclist type
of demon. Sure enough, there were words “Hell Boys” on the back of his
jacket.
“…What’re you doing out here alone?” Dino asked casually. “I
was just wondering…if you would allow me to treat you with another martini or
whatever you’re drinking right now.”
“Oh sure that’s all right.” He seemed like a nice guy/demon, Robyn
noted. “So…Dino, what you do?”
“Nothing really. Just ride around on my bike at night and party with my
buddies…”
“Oh.” She said. He smiled, and then he was about to say something
when…
BAM! RATATATATATATATATATATATATATATATA!!! Suddenly
a loud crash was heard. Someone had forcefully busted through the metal doors
and fired shots in the air. Robyn instinctively lowered her head but the demon
stood arrogantly. “Who the fuck are you guys thinkin’ of barging in like
that?!?” He shouted. Shots were fired again and he fell to the ground. A
couple of other bodies lay bleeding on the floor. The whole bar was silent and
everyone was staring in the general direction of the entrance doors.
“Well well, look what we’ve got here!” A voice drawled.
“Humans…Demons…and other nasty things.”
“…Geez, all the more reason to kill them.” Another snickered.
“Hey! You there!” A voice shouted out. “You with the blonde hair!
Stand up!” Robyn
turned white at these words. Were they calling to her or some other blonde? She
looked around and seemed like nobody else were blonde or standing up at all.
Then it dawned on her that they were talking about her. Shaking, but steady she slowly stood up. She saw three figures
near the entrance wearing black hooded cloaks and two of them had machine guns.
They were pointed at her and she nervously glanced at them.
“You! Are you human?” One of the men with the gun shouted at her.
Robyn nodded. Then he pulled out a cross, and seeing that she didn’t cower
away from the holy object, he was satisfied. She noticed everyone else who was
demons cowered away into the darkness from the cross.
“What are you doing here in such a place like this?”
“…I-I’m just hangin’ around?”
“Friends? Nonsense…. Our mission is to destroy the filth that
threatens humankind…like them!” He spat at the floor. “Filthy demons…”
“W-who are you people?” She asked nervously. Apparently they didn’t
like demons very much judging from how they spoke poorly of demons. One spat
some dark liquid on the shiny, newly polished floor.
“Hm? We are the Demon Hunters. We hunt this filth and kill all filth we
come across to…our sole mission is to cleanse the world of demons.” The
other man stated plainly. “No human should be hanging out with the lot of
them! Come with us! We will teach you the way it should be.”
“Filth? We are NOT filth…you demon hunters are!” A demon who
apparently had enough of their talks, stood up angrily. “Not all of us harass
humankind! Some of us are just trying to get by!”
“Shut up you filth!” He snapped, pointing his machine gun at the
demon. “I hate you all…so don’t you tell me that there are good demons.
There are NONE! There are just DEMONS! Demons kill humans for their rotten
pleasure! There is no such a thing as a good demon! Demons are EVIL.”
The other turned to face Robyn. “C’mon…come with us. We are
destined to cleanse the world, and we would like you to join us. Mankind is
ignorant of demons so it is therefore, our duty to do what we need to rid the
world of these foul creatures of the night. We need to save the world from
demons who would threaten our kind…”
“…uh.” Robyn didn’t know what to say to the racists.
“I…umm…” “Grab
that girl…and get the other humans. Then…burn this place down!” The
unarmed man ordered. Robyn felt herself be shoved out the place and a couple of
other humans including Candy and her band were being hulled outside. “Get out!
We don’t have all night!” The man, who had given the order, then dropped a
lit match onto the floor, which was soaked in gasoline.
Robyn could only watch as the front door began to catch fire and it
spread quickly. She had been thrust outside by one of the men wearing black
cloaks, along with the others. She hoped Camille was all right and would get out
in time. But what about all those poor demons being burned inside the building
for a crime they didn’t commit? It was true that there were many demons who
liked to hurt or kill humans, but there were also many demons that just simply
live along with humans. But nothing justified the actions of the Demon Hunters
in Robyn’s opinion. Humans should just…get along with demons. Not kill them,
since they weren’t all that bad. Camille especially wasn’t one of the bad
demons now. Camille was a demon who didn’t hurt or threaten humans…
“Ha-ha! Now that’s one we’ve burnt so far in this city since our
arrival.” The hooded man with the rifle laughed. “See that, guys? That’s
what all demons deserve! Our leader will be happy.”
“Yeah! Just like those demons tried to burn an entire church down in
Minnesota and lucky you, you survived!” Another laughed. “Curse them demons!
Revenge is sweet like honey, ain’t it, Bud?”
“…So? That doesn’t mean you should just burn every demon down!” A
woman had stood up. The demon hunters turned to look at her menacingly. One of
them then took a step forward, “Listen woman, them demons down in
Minnesota…my folks and everyone in the town was forced in a church an’ then
they burned us down in there. No mercy they showed us, we begged and cried but
they laughed at us. I survived because the bodies of the…villagers had fallen
on me and the fire had burnt itself out after consuming the entire church!” He
turned to face his comrades, “Then…when I got up. ‘Very one was dead! I
was barely alive…my mother…my father were dead! Then…they came. They took
me in and taught me all the things about the demons and taught me how to fight
against them…and I owe my life to them. Like I said, why should we show them
mercy? They sure didn’t show US any mercy! You should be happy we saved you
from bein’ all brainwashed by these demons…who knows, maybe they were saving
you people in there so they’d eat you soon as you passed out!” “No!
Not true! My husband would never do that…” The woman broke down sobbing
loudly in front of Robyn. “Why,
you’re married to a Demon?!?” One
of the men let out an utter of disbelief. “Y-You’re married to a Demon?
Dang…that’s messed up, man.” “NO!”
She screamed at him. “Get away from me!” RATATATATATATATATATATATATATATA!
The
woman immediately dropped on the floor, lifeless and bleeding heavily. He raised
the machine gun to his face and blew on the smoke that was rising from it.
“Huh…dumb woman. Anyone else who got brainwashed like this woman but is
smart enough to keep her trap shut…we’ll help un-brainwash you back at our
place! Don’t worry!” “Dumb
whore, huh?” Another snickered at the woman’s body. “Real dumb! Wonder how
she an’ her dear husband fucked…it would make sense if the husband was a
human-looking demon.” “Yep.”
He kicked the dead corpse to the side. “All right, we’ve wasted time
here…let’s get goin’ guys!” “…Stop
right there!!” A voice shouted at them from the shadows in the alley. The two
men readied their guns. They looked around cautiously, “Eh? Show yourself!”
She stepped forward in the moonlight. Camille stood before the three
hooded figures and crossed her arms cockily. They immediately pointed their guns
at her. She yawned and threw her cigarette on the ground before them. “Get
out, or die. Your choice.” “Hey
Kevin, this demon thinks she can kill us all…” One of the men elbowed the
other in the ribs and they both laughed loudly. “Let’s shoot ‘er!” “No!”
Robyn cried. The men started to fire shots in Camille’s direction and soon
they were engulfed in dust clouds, and they stopped for they could not see
anything. Confident they had gotten her, they turned to face Robyn and the
others, “Get going!” But
then, suddenly they found themselves without guns. Camille had leapt through the
thick cloud of dust and swiped the weapons away quickly. Then she got behind
Kevin and banged his head against his comrade while the third one turned to see
what was going on. Then he reached in for an unseen weapon within his cloak, but
Camille knocked him unconscious with a severe blow to the back of his head. He
had fallen to the floor with a sickening thud, and the sound of bones breaking
was heard. Apparently he had fallen on the unseen weapon he was about to take
out. He lay there bleeding, “…Fuc-Fuck you!” But Camille had kicked his
head and rendered him unconscious.
“Oh thank god!” Candy cried. “Camille…thank god!”
“…Y’all all right?” Camille asked. Robyn and the others just
nodded. Camille then did a quick body scan on everyone, and did an extra long
body scan on Robyn. Satisfied she turned to the bodies on the floor.
“Jus’ who the hell were they?” A man demanded. “Thank god you got
to us…we could’ve been slaughtered like the demons back there.”
“Let’s not think about that.” Camille said. “…I think they were
part of the Demon Hunters…”
“Huh?” Robyn didn’t understand. “What are you talking about?”
“We’ll talk more later.” She replied impatiently. “Right now we
need to dispose of these bodies and …go see to the bar. I think one of the
demons released nitrogen gas on the fire.”
Robyn felt that Camille was purposely ignoring the question but she
didn’t press it any further. She was glad at the news that a demon had
Nitrogen Gas released on the fire and saved Troy’s bar, Isolation. But
something about the Demon Hunters and their hatred of Demons bothered her. She
decided she’d ask later when there were no distractions in the way.
“Oh there you guys are!” Troy was out of breath. “Everything’s
fine…you people all right?”
“Yes. Thanks to Camille.” Robyn said. Troy sighed in relief, “Thank
god!” he coughed, “Damn, still got some of the smoke in my lungs…come on
in and have a drink! Everyone’s still partying…gotta drink up the extra
liquor I got…”
“Humph, mama went with her King and they lived happily ever after, or
so as they thought.” A child whispered from the shadows at their retreating
backs. “Just you wait…” ~END PART ONE~
