Disclaimers: I own them, just not who they resemble. Know that!

Love/Sex: Yes they are in love! Yes they have sex! Dude, seriously, love and sex go together, so why wouldn’t they? But I’ll let you know they’re lesbians so there are two women having sex. Good sex. So just remember that if you aren’t 18 then go away cos you’re not old enough. If this kinda love is not legal where you give then move! “Trying to write sex? LOL ....... just add a lot of "wet" .... "moist" .... "open" ..... "spreading" ...... "ramming" .... "thrusting" .... and there you have a half decent scene.”

"…as she peeled the potato she couldn't help noticing how shapely the peeler was ... and how interesting it would be to have a little 'experiment' ...."

Dude!! Some of the potato peelers I've come in contact with are dangerous! Next to a cheese grater that’s something I'd NEVER EVER stick up there! LOL

Hey, I didn't say anything about sticking one anywhere! (such is the joy of implying as a valuable writing tool ...... you can always disclaim any notion! And you can quote me on that)

Language/ Violence: Yes and Yes. It’s a war story and it ain’t pretty. There’s a bit of graphic violence so if you’re sensitive then don’t go past here.

Thanks: To the one and only Nat Natalie says - "Well, this girl sure knows how to write porn. Reminds me of that time when I ate a Mars bar in front of a nature documentary ..." Ya freakin’ sicko! Thanks for doin the edit work on this!

PROLOGUE:

Every hero should have to have a glorious, triumphant homecoming. Sharon Randolph would not be gifted with that homecoming. She was flown home six and one half months into her tour and discharged from the army. What could they do with a cripple? Her family stood waiting to greet her. Derek Randolph expecting the mother that left him, Jessie Randolph wasn’t sure what to expect.

                                                                *****

“Jessie!? Jessie, over here!” Sonni called to her wife as she limped out of the airplane terminal. She found the nearest seat to rest in.

Jessie smiled. Excitement was welling up inside of her. She could hear Sonni calling, and she now knew that her prayers were answered. She pushed the stroller carrying their two babies toward the woman she had missed for so long.

Derek ran ahead of her and was the first to notice Sonni sitting down. “Mommy! You came home!” He climbed into her lap.

Sonni wrapped her arms around him and kissed his forehead. She replied, “Yes I did…I missed you so much.”

Jessie looked down at the woman she loved and was immediately concerned. Derek climbed out of her lap and allowed Sonni to get up. With much effort she succeeded and pulled Jessie close to her. “I’m home baby, and I promise I’m never leaving you again.” She ran her fingers through Jessie’s sun bleached hair. She pulled her head back and looked into the emerald eyes of her wife and smiled. She was finally home.

Jessie gazed back and placed a lingering kiss on her lips. “You’re home.” She ran her fingers over some of the scars on Sonni’s cheeks and neck. “Never again…” she whispered.

Sonni rested her head on Jessie’s shoulder and glanced to Derek and the two blonde babies beside him. “They’re beautiful, Jess.”

Jessie let go and took Sonni’s hand. She led her over to their newest family members and watched as Sonni slowly lifted Connor into her arms. “My little girl…” Jessie lifted Brent out of the carriage and placed him in Sonni’s other arm. “My little boy.”

“Yes…” Jessie repeated as she pulled Derek into her arms.

ONE:

SECTION A:

Their ride home much passed in silence, barring Derek's chattering. The rest of the day Jessie had spent taking care of the children and wondering what was going through Sonni’s head. She couldn’t tell, and she wasn’t sure if she wanted to know what Sonni was thinking. She spent countless hours sitting in her armchair gazing into space and had yet to take off her uniform. Finally, their children were asleep, and Jessie thought it would be best to talk a little bit.

“Ready for bed?” Jessie asked as she placed the palm of her hand against Sonni’s cheek.

Sonni jumped at the contact; she looked up at Jessie and bit her lower lip. “I’d really like a bath.” She replied.

“Want me to start running the water?” Jessie asked softly.

Sonni lowered her head. She asked, “Will you join me?” She rubbed her almost bald, head.

“Of course.”  Jessie replied as she sat down on the arm of the chair. She asked, “Why wouldn’t I?”

Sonni was silent for what seemed like an eternity and finally answered. “Because I’m ugly.” She replied.

“You’re beautiful…” Jessie said. She was shocked by the statement and didn’t quite know where it came from.

“My face, my arms…my leg.” She said. She looked at Jessie, “My soul…they’re all ugly.”

“What are you talking about?” Jessie asked.

Sonni simply looked at her and unbuttoned her shirt. She pulled it off, exposing scars all over her arms. Next she pulled up her pant leg and revealed that the leg that once occupied the space had been removed. The only thing left was her thigh and a titanium rod. She said quietly, “Top of the line…it even has a spring action foot so I can walk easier.”

Jessie moved off of the arm and sank into her wife’s lap. Wrapping her arms around Sonni’s neck, she gently placed kisses all over her face. “You didn’t tell me you lost your leg…you should have, but I don’t care that it’s not there. You’re still the most beautiful woman I have ever come across, and not even scars and missing limbs will change that.” She realized that as soon as the statement had poured from her mouth, it was a lie. She couldn’t help feeling a little nauseous when she saw the rod that was Sonni’s leg. She couldn’t help feeling … disappointment; that was it. Disappointment that her wife was no longer whole in body. And what of her mind? Tears were rolling down her cheeks and inside she was just a little bit angry that Sonni hadn’t mentioned it sooner. Then again, she knew Sonni well enough to know that she did things for a reason.

Sonni allowed herself to relax and pulled Jessie closer to her. She whispered, “I have a promise to keep, Jess.”

“Yes you do.” Jessie replied.

SECTION B:

Sonni lay back against the pillows against the headboard of her bed. Her arms tightened around Jess, who was in front of her. They’d just finished their bath and were currently enjoying the first skin-to-skin contact they’d shared since the night before she left. She thought, “How do I tell her about the things I’ve done. If I do, will she love me anymore? I don’t love me anymore! How can I expect her to?” Her body tensed and began to tremble. Tears flooded from her eyes as she attempted to choke back the sobs aching to come out.

Jessie, who had been running her hand over what was left of her wife’s leg managed to roll over; she straddled Sonni’s lap and wrapped her arms around her. “Hey…” she said.

Sonni pushed her backward with more power than she’d anticipated. “Get away from me!” She yelled. She watched as Jessie practically flew off of her. “Just stay away from me, Jess, or you’ll get hurt!”

“Sonni?!” Jessie asked. Her voice filled with concern. She crawled back up and held onto Sonni’s wrists. “Sonni…”

Sonni had calmed down a little bit by now. Realizing that Jessie’s eyes reflected nothing other than love she began to sob again. “Don’t leave me, Jessie, I’m so sorry…I didn’t mean it, I didn’t want to, I had to and I don’t want you to hate me for what I did because I love you so much and I don’t want to see you leave me, and I don’t want to be free from you, just everything I had to do!” Her arms wrapped around Jessie again and held on tightly.

“You’ll never be free from me, Sonni. Come on, baby. Calm down and go to sleep…” Jessie pleaded. “We’ll talk tomorrow, right now you just need to go to sleep.”

“Hold me?” Sonni sobbed into Jessie’s neck. “Please hold me, Jess? I don’t wanna sleep alone.”

Jessie nodded and opened her arms as she lay down. Sonni looked at her and rolled over onto her stomach. Resting her head on Jessie’s shoulder, she let her hands trail over her wife’s skin. She needed to feel that she was there with her. “I love you…” she whispered as she fell asleep.

“I love you…” Jessie reassured as her hands rested on Sonni’s head and lower back. “I always will…”

                                                                *****

SECTION C:

Jessie opened her eyes and noticed that Sonni was missing. The soft buzz of the baby monitor was enough to let her know that Connor and Brent were asleep. She pulled on a pair of Sonni’s boxers and her favorite T-shirt, then made her way down the hall to Derek’s room. She found him asleep and sucking his thumb. “Where are you, Sharon?” she thought.

Jessie found herself following a trail of displaced tables and overturned flowerpots. She ended up in the kitchen, figuring that Sonni had used them for support. She glanced at her wife who was sitting at the table. Blankly staring into a cup of coffee, she took a drag of her cigarette. “Baby, it’s five in the morning.”

“Bad habit. I couldn’t sleep.” Sonni explained. She looked over to Jessie and asked, “You still love me?”

Jessie nodded her head and slowly approached the woman she loved. She straddled Sonni’s good leg and rested her hands against the sides of Sonni’s head. “Always.” She said as lightly kissed Sonni’s lips.

Sonni put out her cigarette and asked, “How can you love me after all the things I done?” Her hands slid up the sides of Jessie’s body.

“Because I know you and I know you did what you had to do to survive. I love you and nothing you could ever do will change that.” Jessie tried her best to get Sonni to understand that.

“You don’t know what I had to do…what I did.” Sonni tried to tell her. She lowered her head and placed a trail of small kisses down Jessie’s neck, stopping at her chest.

Jessie replied, “Maybe it’s time you told me and then let me decide if it matters. I promise nothing will change how I feel about you.” She captured Sonni’s lips in a feverish kiss, which Sonni gladly returned.

Sonni slid her hands under Jessie’s shirt and sighed as they came to rest on her chest. Jessie’s arms wrapped around Sonni’s neck and pulled her closer. The feeling of Sonni’s touch on her body was driving her insane. Impulsively, she began grinding against Sonni’s thigh. Sonni stopped. She said softly, “If this were before, I’d have swept you off your feet and carried you to our room. Then I would have made love to you like I never have before…but I can’t, Jess.”

“Sonni…what’s wrong?” Jessie asked. She didn’t understand why Sonni wouldn’t make love to her. She’d be more than willing to make accommodations for Sonni. She questioned, “Don’t you want me?” It was obvious that Jess needed as well as wanted Sonni.

“More than anything…I…Jess, please? If I give you the diary I kept will you read it? Then you can tell me if you still want me to touch you.” Sonni pleaded.

Jessie smiled a little and rested her head against Sonni’s shoulder. “It’s just good to have you home, Sharon. I missed you so much.”

“Good to hold you.” Sonni replied.

Jessie lay down on the couch and stared at the small tattered book in her hands. Sonni and the kids were all asleep and she figured that now would be a good time to begin reading. She opened the first page…

Goddamn it all to hell. It’s been a day since I arrived and I want to go home already. I miss Jessie, and I miss Derri, and all this jungle bullshit is getting on my nerves. I got my assignments…second in command. In my regiment there’s one other woman aside from me. Sergeant Corin X. McQuire. We get along pretty well and we’re bunking together. As it turns out, she has a wife and two kids at home. Not to mention her dogs, Cheech, Chong, and Toby.

Patrolling is something I’d rather not do. The fighting hasn’t been terrible, but three men died last night. The little bastards hide in the elephant grass and you can’t see them at all. Both way someone dies and it’s not pretty.

We were on evening patrol and we heard something move in a bush. I always tell my men, “If it moves and you can’t see it, then shoot it till it ain’t moving.” Since our commanding officer was KIA, I was given command. Anyway, I told them to shoot, because I wasn’t taking any chances. Not there. My men opened fire and all we heard were shrill screams. We went to check the bush and they were children we shot. They couldn’t have been older than my son, Derek. One little girl was still alive, but we knew she was dying a horrible dead. One of my guys shot her at point blank in the head. She died instantly, but it’s not fair! Those kids shouldn’t have had to die like that! There are rules to war and one is you don’t kill women and children. We killed six children that day and I will never ever forget what I saw in that bush.

Today I found out I’m a mother again. Not only Derek’s, but also Jessie had twins. Brent Michael and Connor Rae. The only way I would be happier is if I were there with them. This is really what I needed. The little Commie bastards got their asses kicked, so while they regroup we drink, play and make merry. Things are finally looking up for us.

August 14, 2010

Must be the worst day so far. We raided a village and it turns out they are using old Guerrilla tactics. They have underground tunnels all over the place and we didn’t know where to start. We found a man and we took him and his wife and his daughter. We told him to talk and his family would be spared, and he talked. He showed us every goddamned point of entry there was and every exit. What we did next…I ordered them to fill the tunnels with explosives. They did and we killed everything and anything that would have been down there. Again under my order…the man’s wife and little girl were killed in front of him and then he died. We took all the villagers and packed them in a hut. We opened fire and executed them all. When we finished we burned down the hut. No bodies, nothing living, and the little rat bastards aren’t any the wiser that we know where they are.

My head hurts and I am afraid of the monster I am becoming. I eat, sleep, drink, and kill. It’s the way of things around here. It kind of reminds me of a proverb or something. Someone asked me, “How can you do this day in and out?”’ I said to him, “A scorpion comes to a river that’s too far and deep to cross. He says to a swan ‘Will you carry me across?’ The swan replies, ‘Surely not, or you will sting me!’ The scorpion says, ‘Why would I then we would both die!’ Half way across the Swan feels a sharp pain in his back and yells, ‘You stung me! Why!? Now we’ll both die!’ The scorpion replies, ‘I am sorry. It’s my nature and it’s what I do.’ Both the scorpion and the swan died.”

Maybe you can ask how it could be my nature to fight and kill. I don’t know the answer to that question. I just know that if I wasn’t part of me in basic training, and not in Spain, it sure as hell is part of my nature now. I suppose war will do that after a while.

Mission accomplished. We stormed in and took everything we needed. In some cases my men took what they didn’t need. For Christ’s sake I couldn’t stop them! Men and children. The women were spared for a while, because they wanted to rape them. They did and all you could hear were the screams of these tiny women echoing all over.  What could I do? I can’t stop that many men from doing something. They’re all too young to understand. I was too young to understand in Spain and I will be honest and say that I did do things that I am not proud of to this day.

I couldn’t help but think how I would feel if someone hurt my family like that. What if it were my kids they were killing? What if someone did that to Jessie? I’d kill them…I’d kill the fuckers and I wouldn’t think twice about doing it. Not as long as they were dead and bleeding. Nobody gets it.

We all pay a price don’t we? After saying this I’m going to have to burn the whole damn diary so no one can get their hands on it and embarrass the hell out of me. While we’re being honest, I might as well say it. We went out to a bar tonight and the place was full of women. They were moving in swarms and not one of them had any reservations about trying to pick me up. Nope, not them. As they said, “Who wouldn’t want to bed the Queen of Diamonds?” Well after the first one grabbed me I started feeling sick because, frankly, I couldn’t live if I cheated on Jessie. Unfortunately for me I have been so high strung and horny as hell that I had to leave. I tucked my tail between my legs and made my way back to camp. I curled up in my sleeping bag and finger fucked myself until I couldn’t breath. That’s how sad I am. Lucky me, my best friends here know what I’m going through. Corin did, but she’s MIA. She said she left the army, but I often wonder why she came back. My second in command, Liam, gets it. He’s been married five years with two kids and a dog. My buddy.

We take the city tomorrow and I feel like there’s a pain in my chest. I’m scared shitless, because while there’s a chance that I could live tomorrow, there’s a better chance that I will die. I guess I ought to let you know who wrote this; because “S” doesn’t help much now does it? I’m Lieutenant Sharon Rae  Randolph, commanding officer of the 321st regiment. I am also known as the Queen of Diamonds. I came from a little town in New Jersey, and joined the army my junior year in high school. When I’m night fighting I’m teaching junior history. I’m married to a beautiful woman. Her name is Jessica James- Randolph. She had the most beautiful blonde hair, but before I left she cut it all off. Now she looks like a cute little pixie. Her eyes are the most brilliant, shining shade of green. Emerald. I could and have been lost in them and there’s no place I’d rather be lost in. My little boy, Derek. Derri is a tiny boy with wavy black hair and light blue eyes. He’s my baby no matter how big he gets. Connor and Brent…my twins. I’ve never seen them. I hope I see them.

I know how history can be, and I know that it leaves things out. I also know that my name will be probably end up in some stupid textbook somewhere in the future. Hell, my commanding officers told me that much. So now I am afraid that I have tarnished my name, and my kids’ names with the things I’ve done. “Lt. Sonni Randolph headed up the most vicious regiment around. They are best known for being first into battle, quickest to fire, bombing the enemy and finding their tunnels, turning a blind eye while her men rape village women, and killing children.” I can just see Derri sitting there saying, “That’s my mother…”Worse, say I don’t come home…Brent and Connor say, “That’s the mother we never knew. We lost her to that?”

I’m going home. I’ve been asleep for a while…almost a month. I just slept. I lost my leg and they’re keeping me here for another month and a half, but I’m going home. No more fighting, and no more crying. There’s just gonna be smiling and being ready to go home. I can’t wait. I just wanna hold my babies and my Jessie. I’m just so glad it’s over. I’m really going home.

SECTION B:

Jessie put the small book down on the table. She brushed the tears away from her eyes and shook her head. She glanced at her watch; it was ten fifty. She couldn’t really understand how Sonni could have let so much happen under her command. She did understand that there was very little that Sonni would be able do to stop them. Jessie hadn’t read the entire journal. In fact she hadn’t read most of it. She couldn’t. The parts that she had read were too much, but they did explain why Sonni seemed to think that she wouldn’t be loved anymore. She stood up and began walking down the hallway toward their room. Noticing the door of the nursery open, she made a slight detour. She found Sonni sitting in the rocking chair, a baby in each arm.

                                                                *****

“Ya know I wasn’t here when you two were born, eh? I was away, and I’m really sorry about that. Sleepy girl, huh? Let’s put you down now that you’ve stopped crying.” Carefully she stood up and made her way to the cribs. She was pretty good with the prosthetic leg; it was without it that worried Jessie. Sonni placed Connor down and covered her up. She then cradled Brent close to her body, “My little boy…my son.” She kissed him forehead and carried him to his crib. Placing him down she ran her fingers over his head. “Got more hair than me…”

Jessie chuckled from the door and shook her head. “He does…” she remarked.

Sonni turned around and smiled. She moved a little bit closer and pulled Jessie into her arms. “You read anything?” she asked as she buried her nose in Jessie’s hair.

Jessie grinned and replied, “Yeah…not all of it though. Sonni, I read a little. A couple pages from every month and, frankly, I don’t want to know more. I now understand what went on over there and I understand why you feel that you don’t deserve love but honey, nothing has changed.”

Sonni started limping toward Jessie. She closed the door to the nursery and followed her wife to their room. “Things have changed…” Sonni said as she sat down on the bed. She easily took off her leg and leaned it up against the wall.

“What?” Jessie asked. As she moved toward Sonni the sound of a truck backfiring rang out in the distance.

                                                                *****

Sonni hit the floor with a thud, her hands covering her face. “NO!” she screamed. “MAKE IT STOP!” Sonni began to sob. She curled up into a ball and rocked herself back and forth- her body trembled violently.

“Sharon!” Jessie yelped as she sank to the floor and tried to pull her wife up. “Come on Sonni, it’s alright…it was a truck.”

Their bedroom door opened and Derek appeared. His hair was tousled and his eyes were droopy. Seeing his mother on the floor crying, he went into panic mode. “Mama! What’s wrong with Mommy?!” He saw the stump where Sonni’s leg used to be and started bawling. “Mommy!” Derek ran to Sonni and cried, “Mommy…don’t die!”

Jessie looked at both members of her family and suddenly felt very overwhelmed. She caught Derek before he reached Sonni and picked him up in the air. “I need you to go to sleep. Mommy’s going to be fine, I promise. Please? We’ll talk about it in the morning, okay? That’s very soon.”

Derek nodded as he was put down. He went running from the room, still crying.

Sonni’s heart started pounding as her eyes closed. She curled up on the floor and continued to sob, “Make it stop…please…no more…I’m sorry…I didn’t mean it…”

Jessie rested her hand on Sonni’s head, “Sonni…come on sweetheart. Everything’s fine. Come on, let’s get you into bed.” She whispered. Sonni didn’t move, instead she just lay there and opened her eyes. Jessie leaned down and kissed her cheeks.

“Come on baby…” Sonni started to loosen up and uncurl. Jessie stood up and offered her hands to Sonni. Pulling her up, Jessie supported the other side of Sonni. Sonni kind of flopped down to the bed and tried to pull Jessie down with her.

“I’ll be back…”

“No…I need you.” Sonni pleaded, “Please don’t go…” she reached out and pulled on Jessie’s hands.

Jessie smiled faintly and knew in her heart that she could never deny Sonni anything. “I’ll be right back. I have to go check on Derek…”

“Promise?” Sonni asked as she curled herself back into a tight ball.

Jessie leaned down and placed a tender kiss on Sonni’s lips. “I promise.” She swore.

                                                                *****

Jessie was now in Derek’s room trying to calm the boy down. She held him close to her as he rested his head on her shoulder. “Mommy…” he cried as he wrapped his arms around her neck. “Is Mommy gonna die?”

Jessie shook her head and thought of how best to answer her son. She said quietly, “Mommy’s not gonna die. She just got really scared by a loud noise.”

“She cried.” Derek pointed out.

Jessie brushed some hair out of his face and kissed his cheek. She told him, “I know she cried. Mommy was in a scary place for a while. There was a lot of loud noise and that scares her now. You don’t need to worry about her dying, because she won’t. I do need you to be a big boy though. This might happen again. Sometimes I might need you to sit with Connor and Brent while I help Mommy. Can you do that?”

“I can…” Derek said as he closed his eyes. He snuggled closer to his Mama and placed his thumb in his mouth.

Setting him down, she placed a kiss on his cheek and whispered; “Good night, my sweet little boy.” She set off to make her last rounds and be sure that Connor and Brent were sleeping.

                                                                *****

Jessie stepped into the room. She found Sonni staring at wall; her knee was pulled to her chest. “Sharon…baby?” she asked. Sonni didn’t answer; she just kept staring.

Jessie made her way to the bed and climbed on. She gently placed her hand on Sonni’s shoulder. The next thing she knew she was sprawled on her back holding a hand to her stomach. Tears began streaming down her cheeks as Sonni’s head snapped to the side.

“Oh my God, Jess!” Sonni yelped as she pulled Jessie into her. “Oh my God, you scared the fuck out of me! I’m so sorry, Jessie!”

Jessie pushed herself away from Sonni and sat herself up. She stared at her wife in complete shock. She never thought that Sonni could hurt her. “Sonni…”

“Jessie, you can’t sneak up on me like that…I…Jess, I told you you’d get hurt…I’m so sorry.” Sonni sputtered as she tried her best to control her emotions.

Jessie stood up and made her way out of the room. She knew that she wasn’t being supportive and that she shouldn’t go. She just couldn’t get over the fact that Sonni had punched her. “I need air…”

“Fuck!” Sonni yelled as Jessie left the room.

                                                                *****

Jessie sat by the bedroom door and listening to Sonni’s sobbing. It broke her heart to know that she couldn’t help with this. Or maybe she could and she didn’t want to. She thought, “I scared her, that’s all. She loves me and I know she’d never intentionally hurt me. She’s crying…Sonni doesn’t cry. She needs me and I’m not with her. I knew better…”  Jessie stood up and walked back into the room. Slowly she rounded the bed and kneeled down, level with Sonni’s eyes. “You didn’t mean it…”

“No…” Sonni sobbed. She couldn’t do anything else. Her emotions were completely out of whack and her head was spinning.

Jessie climbed onto the bed and lay on her side, facing Sonni. Their foreheads touching, Jessie’s lips connected with Sonni’s. Her tongue sought out the entrance to her lover’s mouth and was immediately granted entrance. Her arms wrapped around Sonni’s neck as Sonni’s arms pulled her ever closer. They finally broke apart and Jessie commented, “There is one part I’d like to know more about…”

“What part?” Sonni asked. She wasn’t even sure what she had written in her diary. She just knew that some of it she never wanted to think about again.

Jessie smiled and said, “The part where you finger fucked yourself.”

One of Sonni’s hands moved from Jessie’s and slid it between their bodies. Her hand stopped between her own legs; she began running her fingers up and down, stopping at her clit. “Repeat performance.” Sonni moaned into Jessie’s ear.

Jessie stilled Sonni’s hand and pulled it toward her lips. She closed her mouth over the digits and ran her tongue over them. Once she released them she whispered, “You taste so good…on your back…” she commanded. She smiled as Sonni complied. Jessie slid down and pulled Sonni’s boxers with her.

The first touch of Jessie’s tongue against Sonni’s moist folds nearly sent her over the edge. Jessie rested the palms of her hands against the insides of Sonni’s thighs, effectively spreading them apart. She rammed her hard tongue into her wife’s hot crevice. “Jess…in me…now!” Sonni pleaded. She thought, “The Queen of Diamonds reduced to nothing…by love no less.”

Jessie removed her tongue and thrust three fingers into Sonni. She closed her mouth over her clit and began running her tongue over it. Sonni moaned in pleasure, “Ohhh…fuck me…”

“That’s what I’m doing…” Jessie breathed as her thrusts became harder and faster.

“Coming….” Sonni moaned as her body trembled. She never remembered coming so fast or hard in her entire life. “Jesus, Jessie!” she moaned.

Jess smiled and found a slick spot inside and began working her fingers over that area. She rested her other hand on Sonni’s hip as the woman began grinding down on her hand. Jess ran her lips over Sonni’s clit, letting her tongue brush against it every chance she got. One final thrust caused Sonni’s body to become lost again in spastic movements. Jessie removed her fingers as the contractions stopped and crawled up the bed to lie beside her lover.

Sonni rolled her head to the side and noticed at Jessie was laughing and holding her hand to her cheek. She asked, “What’s so funny? I just had the best orgasm of my life and you’re cackling?!”

Jessie rolled over and buried her face in Sonni’s neck. She said, “Yes…”

“Mind telling me why?” Came the irritated question.

“No…your umm…your…” Jessie couldn’t phrase it right. She swiped a hand across her nose.

“My what? I just showered so I know I don’t smell…” Sonni commented.

Jessie started laughing harder as she reached over and placed her hand on Sonni’s stump of a leg. She said, “Your leg hit my face when you came…I thought it was funny and I got some of your…well you know… in my nose.”

Sonni arched a thin eyebrow and pulled Jessie close to her. She said, “Come here and let me show you how much I missed you…” She kissed Jessie’s lips and commented, “You’re lucky I’m not a man or you’d have gotten a nose full, huh?”

Jessie smiled and said, “Shut up and make love to me before I get really turned off.”

“You got it, chicken lips…” Sonni said with a smirk.

“Excuse me?” Jessie asked.

“Just remembering how you taste…kinda like chicken.” Sonni replied.

Jessie playfully slapped her, realizing that things with Sonni wouldn’t be easy. This would be like having a repeat of The Spanish-Portuguese War, all over. She’d be a mess one minute and playful the next. “Never complained…”

“Never will.” Sonni said as she began making love to her wife.

THREE:

SECTION A:

Once again Jessie woke up alone. Six minutes after six on Monday morning, meaning she had work today. Derek would need to be dropped off at school for eight and the baby-sitter would be over at seven-thirty to look after the twins. Jessie thought, “Shit… the baby-sitter. Sonni…” Sonni wouldn’t start teaching again for a month, after Christmas break. She pulled herself out of bed and pulled on her “morning clothes.”

                                                                *****

Sonni sat on the couch Brent in her arms and Connor propped up between three pillows. She was taking pleasure of the simple things in life. Xena reruns on the sci-fi channel and two of her kids. She looked at Brent and said, “Ya know lil man, you better watch this…one of these days you’re gonna need some pointers from that guy. Nope, Joxer’s not a very smart man…can’t get his dream girl so he settles for the disease infested slut. That’s exactly what not to do…”

Brent smiled at her and began opening and closing his mouth. Effectively, he made an interesting fish sound.

Connor gurgled from the couch and put her small bottle back in her mouth.

Sonni smiled and ran a hand over the little girl’s peach fuzz. “You are gonna break some hearts some day.” Sonni looked down at the titanium leg. She made a mental note not to wear shorts in public, as it did look rather strange. “Beautiful girl…”

                                                                *****

Jessie watched with interest the interaction between the twins and Sonni. She seemed more at peace with them then anywhere else. “Morning, baby.” she said as she entered the room. She walked over to Sonni and placed a kiss on the top of her head. She leaned down and scooped Connor into her arms and sat down. “Forgot to tell you…we have a baby-sitter coming at seven-thirty. I can cancel with her until you start work again.” Jessie said.

Sonni shrugged, “Naw…let’s be practical. I have one leg and two five-month-old babies. I might need a little help. You tell Johnson I’d be teaching again after break?”

Jessie adjusted Connor to burp her. She replied, “Yeah. He’s gonna give you a call today.”

“What’s the sitter’s name?” Sonni asked as she started making faces at Brent. She imitated his “fish impression.”

“Laine. She’s really nice.” Jessie commented. “Ya know you scared Derri last night?’

Sonni looked at Jessie and arched an eyebrow. She asked, “What happened last night?”

“You don’t remember? You basically got scared and curled up on the floor crying after hearing a truck backfire. Derri saw, you accidentally punched me and we made love. What do you remember?” Jessie asked as she took Brent from Sonni and put both babies in their swings.

“Talking to them and then… nothing. I’m sorry, Jess, I just don’t remember.” Sonni admitted as she opened her arms to her wife.

Jessie gladly sank into them and sighed. “It’s okay…but I need to get showered for work and then wake up Derri.”

“Let me wake him up?” Sonni asked as she nuzzled Jessie’s hair.

“No need.” Jessie said as she smiled at Derek. “Come here, sunshine.” She said.

Derek came bounding over to his mothers and asked, “Where’s your leg?” He asked innocently. He climbed onto the couch and snuggled into Sonni’s embrace.

Sonni placed a kiss on his head and replied, “How bout I explain everything after school?” she asked.

“Don’ wanna go to school. Can I stay with you, just today?” Derri asked. Both Jessie and Sonni looked over and smiled at the boy. His wavy dark hair was sticking up on the side and his pants legs were half up his legs.

Sonni replied, “Yeah…I don’t see why not.”

“Can you tell me now?” Derek asked Sonni.

“Okay. Well I was outside of Ho Chi Mihn City and I saw my friend Liam. He was in trouble so I went to help him. I went and got Liam and I was running back and I stepped on something called a mine. They blow up when you step on them and I did and my leg got hurt really badly so they had to take it off.” Sonni explained.

“Is your friend okay?” Derek asked innocently.

Sonni smiled and smoothed down his hair. She replied, “Me and Liam went to the hospital together and they had to take his arm. After that he got to go home to his family, like I did. He lives close too, so he might come to visit.”

“Really?” Derek asked.

“Really.” Sonni replied.

                                                                *****

SECTION B:

Jessie had left early for work and Sonni and Derek were awaiting the arrival of Laine. As the table, Sonni and Derek were enjoying a breakfast of coffee, orange juice, and FrootLoops. Brent and Connor were in their baby chairs on the floor at Sonni’s feet. Derek looked at Sonni and said, “I want a puppy.”

“You want a puppy?” Sonni asked with a smile.

Derek nodded and chewed a mouthful of cereal. He replied, “Mama said I hadda wait ‘til you came home to ask you.”

Sonni smiled and was suddenly glad that Jessie took the Bronco today. That meant that the Cavalier was outside and she could get into that.  “Well we have a baby-sitter coming today, so why don’t we go and get a puppy?” Sonni asked.

“Silly, you can’t drive…” Derek pointed out.

Sonni smiled, “I can.”

“You got no leg.” Derek countered.

“I have no left leg; I use my right leg for the pedals.” Sonni said with a grin. “We’re set.”

“Oh, cool!” Derek said, a smile plastered across his face.

Sonni heard the front door open and stood up as quick as she possibly could. Since she woke up she had discarded her leg and opted for set of crutches. She was glad they were the kind that clasped around her arms; she didn’t like the chafing the regular ones gave you. She clasped them on and made her way into the living room. She found a young woman standing in the middle of her home. The woman was tall and had long blonde hair and brown eyes.

The woman asked, “Who are you?”

Sonni gave her a look and asked, “The question is who you are and do you know how to knock?”

“I’m Laine and Jessie gave me a key. Now who are you?” Laine asked again.

Derek came running into the room and stopped by Sonni. He said, “Mommy, Connor threw up! Hi, Laine.”

“Hi, Derek.” Laine replied as Sonni hobbled off to the kitchen to replace her leg and clean up her daughter.

Derek grinned, “Mommy said we’re gonna get a puppy today.”

“Why aren’t you at school?” she asked Derek.

“Mommy’s home now and she said I didn’t have to go today.” The boy replied.

“Oh.” Laine replied. She never really knew that there was anyone in Jessie’s life. Secretly she had been hoping that Jess would be interested in her. Obviously, if Derek was calling this woman Mommy, there must be something between she and Jess.

Sonni came back into the living room and said, “Derri, lets go finish breakfast. Laine, you can come into the kitchen.”

Derek went and Laine followed.

                                                                *****

SECTION C:

Laine sat next to Sonni and asked, “So who are you?”

Sonni smiled as spooned some mush into Connor’s mouth. Laine had begun to feed Brent as well. “I’m Lieutenant Sharon Rae Randolph, commander of the 321st regiment. Also known as Sonni, Jessie’s wife.”

“You were in Vietnam?” Laine asked.

Sonni nodded and wiped some food off of Connor’s mouth. She replied, “Yeah for six and a half months.”

“My brother was KIA over there.” Laine said.

“My best friend and I were WIA, and another friend of mine is MIA. I’ve also had a lot of my men be KIA.” Sonni replied absently. She didn’t really want to talk about this today.

Derek glared at Laine. He knew that his Mommy wouldn’t want to talk about this. In the two days she had been home he had observed that talking about where she had been made her unhappy. He didn’t want that for his mother. He told Laine, “Mommy doesn’t like to talk about playing pin the tail on the Commie.”

“Oh, okay.” Laine replied as she went about feeding Brent. She asked, “So how long have you and Jessie been together?”

Sonni smiled, as this was a question she could answer. She replied, “We met in high school. We were best friends and then I went to fight in Spain when I was eighteen. I came back and she took care of me and we fell in love. We’ve been together for seven years and had three beautiful children.”

“So I take if you’re very much in love?” Laine inquired. She figured she could prod a little bit and see if she still would have a chance with Jess. She figured since Jess never mentioned Sonni they couldn’t have all that much between them.

Sonni was a little more perceptive than Laine counted on. She suggested, “Derri, why don’t you go get dressed so we can go out?”

“Okay…so we can get a puppy?” He asked.

“Yup.” Sonni replied as the boy rounded the table and gave her a kiss on the lips.

“I love you, Mommy.” He scampered off to get dressed.

                                                                *****

“You have no chance with her.” Sonni said as soon as she was sure that Derek was out of range.

Laine smiled and said, “A girl can try. How do you know I don’t have a chance?”

“She’s my wife. She loves me, not you. Don’t try and come between us, because you won’t like the end result.” Sonni growled.

“If I have no chance then how come she’s been taking me to bed the whole time you were gone? How come she never told me about you?” Laine barked.

Sonni was seething. She narrowed her eyes and growled, “You lie…”

“Do I, stumpy?” Laine snarled. She wondered if Sonni would leave her here today after this. She realized she’d probably be out of a job. “She whimpers right before she has an orgasm…”

Sonni stood up and made her way up the stairs. She would have thrown out Laine on the spot but reason says that there would be no way she could handle three kids on her own all day. She went into her bedroom and dialed the number for the school.

“Highland High.” The voice answered.

“Rita, it’s Sharon.” Sonni said.

“Sharon, how are you?” Rita asked.

“Alright, can I talk to Jess?” Sonni asked.

“Hold on, and I’ll put you through.” Rita replied.

Sonni waited until she heard Jessie pick up. She said, “Jess?”

“Sharon, what’s wrong?” Jess asked.

Sonni sighed, “Well lets put it this way. I’m gonna take Derek to get a puppy.”

Jess laughed, “Figures.”

Sonni continued, “Laine…she’s not staying here Jessie. I need you home now ‘cos I can’t deal with three kids alone.”

“What happened?” Jessie asked with a frown.

“Tell ya when you get here. She’ll be here when you get home.” Sonni said.

“Alright, I’ll call Johnson.” Jessie said. “I love you.”

“Love you too.” Sonni replied.

                                                                *****

SECTION D:

Jessie opened the door of the house and found Sonni and Derek on the couch with Brent and Connor. She approached her family, “Where’s Laine and what happened?”

Sonni turned to Derek and asked, “Derri, I’m gonna put your brother and sister in their swings. Can you sit with them?”

“Ok, Mom.” Derek replied. He could sense that nothing good would come out of this anyway.

“Thank you.” Sonni said as she kissed his brow. Jessie took both children and strapped them in. Derri turned his attention to the program he had been watching on the television.

                                                                *****

Sonni and Jessie made a slight detour to the hallway. Jess asked, “What happened?”

“You didn’t fuck her did you?” Sonni whispered.

Jessie’s eyes widened as her jaw dropped. “God no! Sonni why would you even think that!?”

“She said you did, and that you whimper right before you come. You do, Jess.” Sonni explained as she brushed a tear from her cheek.

Jessie frowned and couldn’t belive that Laine would use something like that against her. It was supposed to be girl talk. She put her arms around Sonni’s neck. She said, “Laine came out with Rita and I and we were having girl talk. Sex came up and, well, that came out.”

“She called me stumpy.” Sonni said as her face dropped.

Jessie felt anger building up inside her. She was so pissed that she couldn’t see straight. “She called you stumpy?”

“Yeah.” Sonni said as she lowered her lips to Jessie’s. “I love you.”

Jessie returned the kiss and smiled, “I’m going to kick her out of our house.”

“I need to sit down…I think I’m gonna vomit.” Sonni said as she limped down the hall to her bedroom.

                                                                *****

Jessie stormed into the kitchen and glared a Laine. She snarled, “How dare you?”

“What?” Laine asked with an innocent smile. She knew damn well what.

“Stumpy? You told her you fucked me?” Jessie questioned. “Give me my house keys.”

Laine frowned and threw the keys at Jess. They hit her shoulder and landed on the floor. “You never told me about her.”

“You never asked and I never knew it was your business. She is my wife and I love her with all of my heart. You hurt her and you hurt me.” Jess told her.

“You’d fuck me,” Laine said as she stood up. “I know you would and it’s only her that keeps you from doing so!” she said as she left the kitchen and the house. She didn’t see any point staying around.

                                                                *****

SECTION E:

Derri had gone across the street to play with his friend and the twins were napping. Sonni lay in bed staring at the ceiling. Tears were rolling down her cheeks as she played with a button on the front of her shirt. Jess stepped into the room and said softly, “Sonni…” She sat on the bed.

Sonni turned her head to the side and whispered, “Jess…I…I’m sorry.”

“For what?” she asked as she stretched her compact form over Sonni’s body.

Sonni’s arms wrapped around Jessie’s waist as she nuzzled her face into her wife’s neck. “That you have to take more time off and find a new baby-sitter. I didn’t mean to cause trouble.”

“No…it wasn’t you.” Jessie said as she smoothed down some of Sonni’s hair. She placed tender kisses over Sonni’s cheeks. “You didn’t do anything, darling. I love you so much that I’d go to hell and back to make sure that no-one hurts you again.”

“She’s pretty…I have scars and no leg. Why would you want me?” Sonni asked softly.

“Because I love you. Scars and all. She’s not pretty, Sharon. She’s dark and mean and I don’t and won’t ever love anyone the way I love you.” Jessie responded. She meant every word she said.

Sonni’s arms tightened around Jessie. She whispered, “Then that’s all I’ll ever need to know.”

TO BE CONTINUED IN THE NEXT AND LAST INSTALLMENT.

“God knows how Jessie puts up with, not just a cripple, but an emotional cripple too. Will Jessie be able to cope with the one she loves going to war, only to come back slightly altered in some way, shape or form. I guess falling in love is falling for the person as they are ‘then’ – at that moment. And I guess if anything changes in them – whether this is a physical or mental change – then it’s like they aren’t the person you originally fell in love with. This is what really tests love. It is in this situation that you find out if your love is strong enough to overlook slights. It is here that we must ask ourselves: - “If I were enjoying a banana and somebody suddenly replaced it with an orange when I wasn’t looking … would I complain about the difference?”
