To Kiss Or Not To Kiss
(Sequel to Those Summertime Blues)

by Nyxie

Disclaimers: Bleah, bleah, bleah! You know the drill, Reno and Scottie are mine, but their Archetypes aren’t. If you don’t know who those Archetypes are than I wonder how you found this story. You Should probably read “Those Summertime Blues I and II” before this or you could be a bit lost on some things.

Sex/Violence: No Violence...no graphic sex. There is however, kissing and inferred sex between two consenting adult females. Well depending on what you call adult...The law says 18 and they are 18 and 19. And ways so if you don’t like this sort of thing, go away! IF you’re under 17 then get out of here, it’s just like an R-rated movie! I need ID!

Language/ Drugs: One bad beer joke. Language is bad in some parts. If you’re offended then go away. People have potty mouths so deal with it.

Hurt/Comfort: Yup...the hurting was the fun part to write in my opinion. Yah! Yah, I’m a bitch.

Thanks and Acknowledgments: To my Beta Beck: You wanted this, so you go it. You have the weather to thank! What else do I do in 17 inches of snow? Well aside from shovel out my truck. Thanks to mom for reminding me to do laundry or I’d be still wearing the same shirt I have been wearing the last five days.  And finally to Sonny...thanks for feeding the bard this morning. Good Pizza and good pictures! And comments can be sent to LittleStick2@yahoo.com Positive and Negative all welcome.

-Prologue-

"Re, I don't wanna." Scottie Jamison complained. She wasn't a morning person, and it was only 7:00. She snuggled deeper into Reno Newlander's embrace. They had met six months ago at summer camp and had been together since the second morning.

"Fine then, you'll stay here. I have a date for Saturday morning cartoons." Reno moved to get up, although she didn't want to. She had been in love with Scottie since she could remember, and this was one of the things she loved most.

Scottie rolled on top of her and gently kissed her lips, "No, I want you to stay. Please?"

"Can't say no to you, now can I?" Reno asked. She kissed Scottie one more time as the fell back to sleep.

-1-

"Piglet!" Chance Newlander squealed. He looked up at his sister, "Re, Piglet!"

"Yah, Piglet!" Reno laughed. She wrapped her arms around her three year old brother and smiled at him. Sure she was tough and all at school, but Chance, like Scottie was an exception. She looked at Scottie and kissed her forehead, "Who's you're favorite?"

Scottie's head rested on Reno's shoulder, "You. But somehow I don't think that's what you meant. Rabbit."

Reno laughed at her, "You can't be serious! Rabbit is so anal! He's like Jinni!" Jinni was her step-mother.

Chance looked at Scottie, "Scottie, I want bekfast!" He would have asked Reno, but he really didn't want cereal or yogurt again.

Scottie laughed, "French Toast?"

Chance beamed, "Yah! Re an' Mommy only cook cereal!" He loved it when Scottie spent the night; it usually meant he'd get a hot breakfast the next morning. Besides that, Re was always in a better mood. He jumped up, hitting Reno's lip. Oblivious, he started playing with his blocks.

"Owe. I got a boo-boo!" Reno whined and pointed at her lip.

Scottie took Chance's place in Reno's lap, "Want me to kiss it better?" she asked, knowing she would. She wrapped her arms around Reno's neck. Reno nodded and Scottie leaned forward placing a kiss on Reno's bottom lip. Reno pulled her closer and deepened their kiss.

"Chelsea Gabrielle Newlander, stop that now!" Jinni bellowed from the doorway. It wasn't that she didn't like Reno, it was just that she didn't like her behavior or her friends or her love life. She especially didn't like it in front of Chance.

Doug Newlander came romping down the steps, "Jinni, leave them be. They're in love and they deserve a kiss here and there." Doug, like his brother in law, Danny was a liberal. If Scottie made his daughter happy, then she was welcome in his home. The there was the fact he adored Scottie...like another daughter.

"Chance doesn't need to see that! He doesn't want to see that!" Jinni argued.

Chance went over to the couch and sat next to Scottie and Reno. She thought a minute and said, "Mommy, don' be anal like Rabbit!"

Doug bit back a laugh; Scottie buried her face in Reno's neck. Reno, on the other hand howled with laughter. She smiled at her brother, "French Toast... now!"

So later in the day Reno and Scottie had migrated to Scottie's house. Scottie's family consisted of her mother and her sister. Her father had been killed in the Persian Gulf War; her mother vowed never to remarry. Her mother and sister accepted Reno and Scottie. From the first time they saw them together, they knew it was a package deal. "Scottie, you ready for you're competition next week?" Serena, Scottie's sister asked.

"Yah, I'm ready. I'll be home late though, I won't spend that kinda money on a hotel room." Scottie replied.

Addie, Scottie's mother asked, "Re, are you going?"

Reno dropped her head sheepishly. She had planned on it, she just thought it was in two weeks, not next week. "I...well I forgot. I got tickets to Kiss's last show in Detroit for that day." she admitted. She looked over at Scottie, who looked hurt.

Serena looked at her mother, "Ouch? And I thought Russ was bad." She earned a pinch from her mother.

"Let's go talk, Re." Scottie said. She took Reno's hand and pulled her toward her bedroom.

Scottie sat down on her bed beside Reno. Reno looked down playing with her fingers. Scottie asked Reno, "So what ya gonna do?"

"Scottie, the tickets were six-hundred dollars! The room was impossible to book! I'm goin to Detroit." Reno told her.

"Re, you promised!" Scottie was getting angry. She tried to hold back the tears that threatened to fall from her eyes.

"Scottie, this is their last show! It'll never happen again; I'll never see them again!" Reno argued back.

Scottie fell back on her bed, "This is my last year cheerleading. My last competition, you'll never see that again either!"

"But, you'll always be here!" She tried to justify. Those words were a big mistake.

Scottie began to cry, "Will I, Chelsea!? Will I always be here? Right now I don't wanna be here with you!" she spat out.

"You're impossible!" Scottie's words stung big time. Reno's eyes narrowed, "I don't know why I'm here, and I don't know why I'm with you!" she yelled back. She regretted the words as soon as she said them, but this was a battle she didn't want to lose.

Scottie sat up and began sobbing, "Then maybe you shouldn't be with me! Maybe Lecy and Ann were right? Maybe I am to good for you!"

"Maybe you're just as big a slut as I am. For Christ's sake you jumped into bed with me two days after we met!" Reno yelled. She was royally pissed off.

Scottie slapped her across the face, "Don't you dare, Reno!" she screamed

Reno's cheek burned, "Don't I dare what!? Tell you the truth? I fucked you every chance I got and you never stopped me! You're a slut, Scottie. No better than me!" At this point they both just wanted to hurt each other.

Scottie was crying harder. She had never fought with Reno before, and it hurt more than anything in her life ever had. She asked quietly, "That's all it was? Fucking?"

"Yah, and you were bad at it, too!" Reno lied.

"So all you did that night on the hill?" Scottie asked

Reno growled at her, "I knew it'd be easier to get what I wanted from you."

Scottie tried in vain to wipe away the tears rolling down her cheeks, "I hate roses! I hate you! Get the fuck out of my house!"

Reno stood up and stopped. Scottie shot to her feet and pushed Reno back, "Scottie?" Reno said. This had gone to far; she felt like she was about to loose everything good in her life.

Scottie started pounding on Reno's chest, "Get the hell out!" she yelled.

Reno caught Scottie's hands in her own. She pulled her forward and leaned her head down for a kiss. Scottie's lips met hers; Reno slid her tongue into Scottie's mouth. Minutes later she pulled back and smirked, "See, I told ya you were a slut!" Reno stormed out of the house, still pissed off.

Scottie spent the rest of her weekend crying in her room. Reno spent hers with Chance.

-3-

The locker room was empty, with the exception of Reno and Scottie. They had lunch next, so they usually took longer to get ready. It had been about four days since they had last spoken and things were just going down hill. Reno sat on a bench tying her boot as she thought about Scottie. She looked over at her and shook her head. She started thinking about a conversation she had had with her Uncle Danny when they met:

"What can I do for ya, Danny?" Reno asked as they stopped along the trail.

"Not much, I just want you to promise me something. Will you?" He asked. He knew Reno, and he knew that she did get tierd of people rather quickly. He liked Scottie, a lot, she'd been at the camp forever and he didn't want to see her get hurt.

"What?" Reno asked wringing out her hair.

"Promise you won't hurt her. I don't wanna see her get hurt, Chelsea." Danny shook his head and continued, "I know you. You may like her now, but what happens when you leave here? It's only been two days, but she seems to be the latest victim of your curse."

Reno knew it was serious; Dan had called her Chelsea. Reno also knew that people had a tendency to take things to an extreme when they became involved with her, and they read more into it than was a there. "Dan, I won't hurt her. She's just so special that I don't wanna think about anything other than her."

Danny cocked his head, "This is new. Reno Newlander is thinking of someone else?"

Reno sat down on a large rock, "How could I not think of her?"

Danny smiled, "You came up here a few years back to visit for a week. You remember that?" Reno nodded in reply. "Well you remember that clearing I showed you?" he asked. Reno nodded again. "Take her there tonight, Re."

Reno smiled, "I will, Dan." She simply got up and headed back toward Scottie and the kids. She knew Scottie was special; she knew Scottie was hers.

Reno knew now that she had screwed up. She didn't know what to do now, she just knew without Scottie she was nothing.

Scottie was pulling her shirt on. She saw Reno at the other end of the bench. The past two days had been hell for her. She was constantly crying and felt very alone without Reno. She began thinking about an earlier conversation with Reno:

Reno laughed and made a detour into the staff lounge; she closed the door. Scottie jumped down and found herself pressed against the door. Reno leaned in and placed an intense kiss on her lips. Scottie's arms locked around Reno's neck; Reno's hands on Scottie's hips pulling her closer. When lack of oxygen finally kicked in they pulled apart. Reno rested her forehead against Scottie's. She smiled and said, "I missed you today."

Scottie smiled back, "I can promise you'll appreciate the effort, Re. But I can't promise you'll like it." She had never been with a woman before and she didn't know that she could please Reno. Unsure eyes locked with two understanding ones.

Reno turned their embrace into a comforting hug. She told Scottie, "Sweetheart, I'll love it. I love everything about you, and don't forget that." She smoothed some of Scottie's hair down as her head rested on her chest.

"I won't. We need to get to dinner though." Scottie was in loath to break the embrace, but she was getting very hungry.

Reno laughed, "Yeah, feeding time. Better get you food or you might eat me!"

Scottie laughed and grabbed Reno's hand. She said, "No that's later!"

Reno shook her head, "Promises..."

Scottie thought, "Did she really mean it? Was there never really anything there?" She was so lost she didn't realize Reno had moved from the bench. She felt two arms slide around her midsection and a chin rest on top of her head.

"Scottie, I'm so sorry." She whispered

"Are you?" She asked pushing Reno's hands away, "I thought I was just a slut? Why are you apologizing to me?" she asked. Scottie stood up and faced Reno.

"Because I am sorry. I didn't mean any of it, Scottie. Only the part about going to Detroit. You're not a slut, I know why I'm with you, and I NEVER fucked you." Reno explained.

"Why?" Scottie asked. She needed to hear Reno tell her exactly.

"I'm with you because you're my angel. You're the greatest gift I've ever gotten and I don't wanna loose you. I've never fucked you Scottie, that means nothing. I have showed you that I do love you." Reno said quietly.

"But you're still going to Detroit?" she asked as she slid against Reno.

Reno wrapped her arms around Scottie, "Yeah. I'm still going."

Scottie rested her head on Reno's chest, "Then we have nothing to talk about, Re." She pulled herself away from Reno and grabbed her bag, "I love you Reno, but you take me for granted. I can't live like that, because I might not always be there." Without another word Scottie left the locker room.

Reno sat there unsure of what to do next. She thought back one final time:

Planning period came around, and Scottie was so very curios about where Reno went. Reno wouldn't budge, "No, won't tell you." she said as they sat on the couch in the staff lounge. She pulled Scottie closer and kissed her cheek.

"Please?", Scottie begged, returning the kiss.

"You'll find out soon enough.", Reno said. They sat for a few minutes brushing small kisses against each others lips.

"Hey Romeo, Juliette will be here later. Your uncle needs us to go to the store for camp supplies." said Tina, as she walked in.

Reno smiled, "If Danny says so..." She got up after placing another kiss on Scottie's forehead.

"Miss ya!" Scottie called after her retreating girlfriend.

"You too, doll!", Reno called back. She thought, "I miss her already; never live with out her. I'll make this night special...for her. From now on if she wants it, it's hers. Anything, including me. It's always been like that...It will always be like that!"

Reno ran after Scottie and grabbed her shoulder, "Scottie, I don't wanna lose you..."

"Re, it's over..." Scottie said. She left the locker room and started crying again. Now it was up to Reno.

-4-

Reno, Jax, and Leta sat in the corner table of the lunch room. Reno was drinking one of her four cartons of milk. Leta cocked her head, "I think it's unhealthy to drink that much milk."

Jax nodded, "Yah doesn't it make you sick after the second carton?"

Reno laughed, "Milk...does a body good. Maybe it'll do the same for my relationship?"

Leta scrunched her nose, "And all this was cos' you wanna go to Detroit?" She couldn't understand what Scottie's problem was.

Jax rolled her eyes, "Women!"

Scottie approached the table, "Re?" she asked

Reno took another sip of milk, "How do ya feel?" she asked

"I hurt inside..." Scottie told her.

Reno grinned smugly, "That's cos you eat like a pregnant woman! I recommend Tums."

Scottie frowned; she had come to apologize. It was going to be harder than she'd thought. Reno was very hurt right now and Scottie didn't know how to deal with it. She mumbled, "As I recall you never minded my eating habits."

Reno frowned, "Only one thing I ever wanted you to eat...you sucked at it."

Leta began laughing, "I coulda told you that! Re, you can get better head of your beer!"

Jax's tea came out of her nose, "Shit!" she laughed.

Reno looked at Scottie; she was going to cry. Reno said, "Scottie, come here." This had gone on long enough!

Scottie picked up a carton of milk and spilled it on Reno's pants. She threw the empty container at her, "Fuck you, Chelsea!" she ran from the cafeteria.

Reno shot up and ran after her, "Scottie!?"

Jax shook her head, "So much for the milk theory."

Reno found Scottie back in the locker room. She was curled in a corner crying her eyes out. Reno kneeled down beside her, "Baby, this has gone on long enough...don't you think?

Scottie looked up, "Yah. Re, I want you to go to your concert."

"I want me to go too...but I won't if it means losing you." Reno told her as she pulled Scottie into her arms.

"No it doesn't. We just have a lot to apologize for. I'm sorry Reno." Scottie said.

Reno kissed Scottie's lower lip, "Can we sign-out the rest of the day?"

Scottie shook her head in the negative, "No. I will call you after school though." she said.

"I'm sorry, Scottie." she whispered. She stood up and left the locker room.

-5-

Reno sat stuck in traffic; she was screaming out the window at some asshole. He had cut her off and she wasn't very happy. She thought. "Christ, I'm gonna be late! There's no way I'm gonna be on time and this is like never happening again!" She was about ten minutes from her destination.

Scottie sat on a bench getting ready for her competition. So it was more gymnastics that cheerleading at this point. She knew Reno wouldn't be here, and she felt bad. She thought, "I know I can't live without her. But I don't know if she'll give me a second chance. I was being selfish, that concert was all she thought about for the last two months. She should be there."

Fifteen minutes later the announcement came, "Next up is Senior, Eileen Scott-Jamison of Warner-Jackson High School."

Scottie took to the mats and hoped for the best...

Reno stood against a back wall. She had made it; and right now there was only one other place she would consider being. She was grinning ear to ear as her personal hero began. She was cheering with everyone else. She thought, "Not even sex can compare to this!" Every move Reno memorized, not believing she was actually here. After all this would never happen again.

A full two hours later she stood and screamed. It was almost over and she'd had a great evening. She yawned when the PA came on, "And the winner of tonight's competition is Eileen Scott- Jamison of Warner- Jackson High!" Reno spotted Scottie walking to the center of the mats to collect her trophy. Reno smiled and waited for the mass of people to disperse.

Another forty-five minutes and everyone had gone...everyone but Scottie. Scottie sat alone in the stands, trophy at her feet. She heard footsteps coming toward her, but ignored them. She didn't realize they had made their way up into the stands. Reno sat down behind her, "Want some company?" she asked.

Scottie recognized the voice and turned around, "You missed it, Re."

Reno scoffed, "Did not, I was here at eight o'clock! I saw everything, including you kick ass."

"You didn't go to Detroit?" Scottie asked.

"You wanted me here, and I wanted to be with you. I was wrong." Reno said

"Re, you were right. I knew you wanted to be there, and I shouldn't have done what I did." Scottie countered.

Reno moved down next to Scottie, "You're not a slut, and I never fucked you. If you'll let me I'll always be with you. Tonight I wouldn't have been anywhere else."

"I love you...Can I have another chance?" Scottie asked.

"I love you too, and only if you'll give me another." Reno replied.

"You can have it, Reno." Scottie told her.

Reno leaned over and gently kissed Scottie's lips. She asked, "So Eileen, does this mean you're my best and only girl?"

Scottie smiled, "Only if I'm your best AND only girl."

"That you are Scottie, I promise you that." Reno laughed. She remembered how she'd asked Scottie out the first time and figured it would be lucky to try again. She was right.

-6-

Reno looked down at Scottie. She was still sleeping, head resting on Reno's shoulder. "Scottie, wake up?"

Scottie's eyes fluttered open easily for once, "Hi, baby."

Reno smiled at her, "I lied, Scottie. You're not bad in bed, you're incredible."

"I can't belive you did all this, Re. It's too much." Scottie sighed. Reno had booked a honeymoon sweet for the weekend. She got room service for the next two days and promised Scottie anything she wanted was hers.

"No, nothing's too much for you. I'm sorry Scottie, I did take you for granted." Reno admitted.

Scottie nodded, "Yah, you did. You hurt me, Re. Do you really think I'm fat?"

Reno looked at her with an arched eyebrow and thought, "Where did she come up with that!? Look at her!" She said, "Scottie, what do you mean?"

"You said I eat like a pregnant woman." Scottie pouted.

Reno rolled over on top of Scottie. She ran her hands down Scottie's sides, "You do. But I can't see or feel an ounce of fat on you." she kissed Scottie's neck.

"I love roses, and I love you. Re, I don't wanna fight anymore, I just wanna love you." Scottie told her. She ran her hands over Reno's naked shoulders.

"You've got forever, baby." She captured Scottie's lips in a kiss so deep it touched her soul.

When the finally broke apart Reno was crying, "Whatsa matter, sweetheart?" Scottie asked

"I almost lost you...Scottie, I never wanna lose you." Reno stammered though her tears.

"Then you never will..." Scottie assured her, "You never will."

-Epilogue-

Scottie and Reno spent the rest of their weekend making up and making love. The swore never to fight again, however improbable that is. They were happy again, and nothing else seemed to matter to them. So another day passes and that day turns to another week, to a month. Through everything the only thing they keep a constant is their love. This will bring them to the next chapter of their lives, "Graduation..." eventually.
