Of The Galaxy Defenders:
Darkness From Space

As they approached the crash site, Megan barked out, "Ok, everybody on your
toes. We don’t know what to expect. The sensors say the occupant is human, but
that doesn’t mean they’re friendly!"
Everyone
nodded in agreement. Then they saw it, or what was left of it! It was a charred
and twisted wreck. They pulled up beside it and got out.
"Looks
like whoever was here has left the scene," said Megan. She examined the ship
or what was left of it. It was small, only big enough for one passenger. It was
pretty banged up. In fact it was a wreck!
"Megan,
over here!" shouted Caitlin.
"What
have you got, Caitlin?" asked Megan.
"Footprints.
It looks like whoever was in that thing went this way," she said as she
sniffed the ground and then the air. "Mmmm yes, this way! Definitely human,
but not one I know." They followed her lead as she walked along in the
direction of the tracks.
After
about 20 minutes, Caitlin’s ears picked up sounds from ahead. "Megan, I hear
something. It sounds like a battle or a fight. One woman and something else I
can’t identify. Some creature I’ve never heard before."
"Alright
everybody! Attack formation Delta. We don’t know what we’re up against so
don’t fire until I give the signal. Let’s go!" ordered Megan. As they
reached their target, they saw a short woman with green hair. She had on silver
armor and a white cape. She had a long, slender sword and was using it to attack
a large serpent-like creature.
"That
thing looks familiar Xena!" said Caitlin.
"I
was just thinking the same thing," Replied Megan.
Just
then, the unknown woman cut off its head. Instead of dying, it grew two heads to
replace the one. At that moment, Megan and Caitlin knew exactly what they were
up against.
"Xena,
that’s a..." Caitlin stammered.
"A
Hydra! Yeah, I know!" Megan replied.
"But
Hercules killed it millennia ago!" said Caitlin in astonishment.
"Well,
Gabrielle, looks like somebody brought it back!"
The
woman kept slashing heads and they kept multiplying. The head count was up to
ten.
"We’ve
got to stop her before there are too many heads to kill," said Megan.
"I’m
on it!" Caitlin said. "Hey, Green hair! Over here!" this caused the
stranger to turn and face Caitlin for a moment. A moment was all she needed. She
charged forward, leapt into the air, grabbed her staff from her wristband,
expanded it, somersaulted twice and landed feet first on the woman’s chest
while using her staff to knock the sword from the woman’s hand.
"By
the Goddesses, she gets more incredible everyday!" thought Megan. "Alright,
I want all of you in there blasting that thing. We need to buy a little time. Go
for the body and under no circumstances fire at the head," she ordered.
Brittany and her team rushed in with their blasters firing. Megan had a plan,
but she needed time to explain it to the stranger
"Ok,
lady! Listen up and don’t say a word," Caitlin said. She had the stranger on
the ground and was pointing her staff at the woman’s head.
"Good
work Caitlin." She said. Caitlin just smiled. To the stranger she said, "My
name is Megan. I’m commander of The Galaxy Defense Force. If you want to live,
listen up good. Every time you cut one of that things heads off, it grows two
new ones. The only way you can beat it is to cut off a head and then burn the
stump. Now, if you cut off I can burn it with this," she said holding up her
wrist to show off her bracelet. "I can fire a heat beam from this. Will you
help us, yes or no?" she asked their Visitor.
"Yes!"
she replied.
That
was all they needed to hear! Caitlin allowed the woman to get up and take her
sword.
"OK!
Brittany, pull back," ordered Megan.
"OK,
you heard the Commander! Pull back!" shouted Brittany.
"We’ll
start with the one in front on the left. On my signal, get ready, and...GO!"
Megan shouted.
The
green haired woman charged forth and cut the head off. Then Meagan pressed the
red gem on her bracelet. A beam of intense heat shot out from the gem and burned
the stump to a cinder. This continued until at last the Hydra lay dead.
Megan
turned and confronted the green haired stranger. "All right!" she said, "I
want answers lady! Who are you and what are you doing here?" Megan demanded.
"I
am Princess Yuki from the planet Yumemakura! Our planet is under attack by the
Dark Sorceress! I was sent to find help, but my ship was attacked, and I barely
made it here alive."
"Let
me guess the Hydra was a little present from her!" Megan said.
"If
you mean that creature, yes! I am sure it is her doing!" replied the Princess.
"Ok,
Princess, here is the plan! You will come with us back to headquarters. There
you will rest. I want you to have a full medical exam to make sure you’re all
right. Then, when you’re deemed fit, I want you to brief all my senior staff
on this Dark Sorceress and what it is she wants." Megan said brusquely.
"Of
course." Replied Yuki.
"All
right team. Escort her highness back to HQ! Let’s move out!" ordered Megan.
The
trip back was uneventful. Megan didn’t say a word. She was alone with her
thoughts. She wasn’t sure what to make of this woman. She intended to check
her out very thoroughly. "Even if she was who she is who she says she is,"
Megan thought, "I’m not sure about her story. We’ll just have to see!"
Upon
arrival, the princess was escorted to the Medical Center to be examined by
K’tal’e, the GDF’s Chief Medical Officer. Megan hoped this would shed some
light on the truth about their mysterious visitor. Her first stop was the
command center to talk with Rising Dawn.
"Rising Dawn, I want you to check out the princess. I want everything we have on her. I also want everything we have on this Dark Sorceress. I want this ASAP, got it?"
"You got it! It will take a while, but I’ll have it by morning," responded Rising Dawn.
"Thanks
RD. I knew I could count on you!" Megan said.
Later
that night, Caitlin and Megan were sitting out underneath the stars, Caitlin
asked Megan about the princess. "Megan, what do you make of the princess?"
"I’m
not sure. Her story could be true, but I’m not sure. All I do know is we’re
in a lot of trouble," Megan replied.
"Why
do you say that?" asked Caitlin.
"Because,
someone resurrected the Hydra. Whoever it was, we’re dealing with an enemy
more powerful than we have ever seen before!" she said.
"I
never thought of it that way! That is a scary thought! Very scary!" said
Caitlin.
"Yes
it is. Don’t worry though. I swore long ago I would protect you and I will!"
Megan said with a smile. She pulled Caitlin closer to her. Caitlin rested her
head on Megan’s shoulder, feeling reassured that the love of her life was
there to protect her. Her tail swished slowly behind her.
That
night, Caitlin’s sleep was anything but sound. She was troubled by a dream.
She dreamt of a redheaded woman all but enveloped in a cloak of darkness. The
woman was reaching out for her. This scared Caitlin because she knew this woman
was evil and she wanted to destroy Caitlin and everything she held dear!
