Part 4

The Next Day

“Thanks for coming you guys.  I got your message about Sarah and Erika.  I already spoke with them.  I offered to have uniforms watch over them, but they said they wouldn’t take them.”  Liza explained as she welcomed the couple.

“No problem.  Hopefully this will all be over very soon.”  Jo said as she led her love over to the couch.

“Welcome everyone.  Can I get you anything to drink before we begin?”  Came a deep voice.  Jo turned to see a tall woman with short black hair dressed in a blue business suit enter the room.  Jo shook her head and Emily requested some water.  The woman handed a Pepsi to Liza and a glass of water to Emily, and then took the seat behind the desk.

“Jo, Emily, I would like you to meet Dr. Michael Auroré.”  Liza introduced.  Jo shook Mike’s hand as well as Emily.

“Liza has told me about your case and given me the information she’s collected as well as the taped interviews.  After reviewing said information, I believe I may be able to offer some help to you.”  Mike began.  “I deal with people who suffer from control disorders and abusers.  This woman, Colleen Caliss, is someone who would make a perfect patient for me.  Anyway, getting back to the matter at hand.”  Mike took out a folder and took a drink of her coffee.

“I asked Mike if she could look over all the information and possibly give us an idea of where to start or how to go about catching Colleen.”  Liza stated.

“Colleen has the need to control those whom she cares about, or thinks she cares about.  I would say that she probably had some experience of loss at a young age.  Perhaps she lost someone whom she loved very dearly and that has produced the need to control now.  Her control is a weird sense of protection in her mind.  If she can control the person, then she wont lose them.”  Mike explained.  Jo sat astounded at the information.  Emily remained quiet.  “The reason why a person abuses another is harder to figure out.  It can come from several factors, perhaps a history of being abused, revenge, or a further means of control.  From the information I have been provided, I would say that Colleen is a product of a combination of these factors.  The abuse helps her stay in control.  However, I would not be surprised to find an abusive past.”  Mike paused to drink some coffee.

“That’s amazing, but can you explain why she would want to harm me or Erika?”  Jo inquired.

“That is a not so difficult question Ms. Knyte.”

            “Joana, or Jo.”  She interrupted.

“Jo.  In my opinion, she is lashing out against you and Erika because in her mind you two are the reasons she lost this time.  In her mind, she does nothing wrong, but still loses those she cares for.  In this instance you and Erika are her enemies.  By eliminating her enemies, she will have those she cares for back in her life.  However, her caring for Emily and Sarah would probably be because they somehow remind her of the person she loved and lost.”  Jo nodded.

“Can you give us an idea of where to go from here Mike?”  Liza asked.

“I suspect that she will make contact again.  Perhaps this time her threats will move from letters and pictures.  They will take a physical form of some sort.  I doubt she will try to do any physical harm right away though.  This is like a game to her.  In a way she is trying to replay the past.  It would stand to reason that if and when she does try to do something to harm or possibly eliminate either Jo or Erika, it would occur on a specific day or occasion.”  Mike explained.  Liza made notes of the conversation.

“Thank you Mike.  We really appreciate this.”  Emily spoke.

“One more thing.  She will probably pick a day that was significant of her relationships, perhaps an anniversary of some sort.  I will be here if you need anything.  Please let me know if I can help.”  Mike said.  After saying their thanks, Liza, Jo, and Emily left the office.  Jo and Emily returned home and Liza returned to the office.

            “Thanks Mike.”

“No problem.  I hope I was some help to you.”  Mike offered.

“Of course, now I have a direction to go.”  Liza replied.

“One thing puzzles me though.  You said that Erin was whom Emily stayed with when the relationship ended, yes?”

            “Yeah.”

“Well, she hasn’t had anything happen to her.  It seems odd to me.  Colleen is attacking anyone she feels has kept and is keeping her away from Emily and Sarah.  Just a point of caution, watch over Erin.  She may be your key in this case.”  Mike stated.

“That’s good, I didn’t catch that one.”  Liza complimented her friend.

“Well, I always catch what you miss.”  Mike laughed.  Liza laughed as well.  The two stood there looking at one another for a moment before Liza cleared her throat.

“Well, I best be going now.”  She stated.

“Yeah, you take care and give me a call sometime.  Let me know what happens.”  The two hugged and said goodbye.  Mike called out as Liza left: “Don’t run this time my friend, you deserve love too.”  Liza simply nodded then was gone.  Mike stared after her friend.  ‘I couldn’t be the one, but someone sure has put that smile back on your face.’  Shaking her head she returned to her desk.

One Week Later…

            *knock *knock

            “Come.”

“Ms. Knyte, a package just arrived for you.”  Her secretary informed her as she brought in the box.

“Thanks Sylvia.”  Sylvia returned to her desk, closing the door behind her.  Jo stared at the box for a moment before opening it.  Inside, lying in a pool of dried red paint was one of her action figures.  A perfect likeness of her, except that the head was missing and there was a hole through the chest.  Three words were scribbled on a note taped to the figure: ‘Dawn is coming.’  Jo replaced the lid and put the box in her desk drawer.  Now she was pissed.

Jo grabbed the box and left her office, telling Sylvia that she would be out for the rest of the day.  Sylvia nodded and watched her boss leave.  Jo got in her car and drove to the bookstore where Emily worked.  Parking her Mustang, she got out and went inside.  Rik greeted her as she came up to the counter.  “Hey Jo.  This is a surprise.  I thought you were working today.  You know with the tour coming up and the record release in a few days.”  She said.

“Well, my day turned sour, so I left.”  Rik nodded.  Sarah walked over a few minutes later and hugged Jo hello.

“Hey there tall, dark, and gorgeous.”  She chuckled.  Jo rolled her eyes.  “Give me a sec.  I’ll go get grumpy.  Be careful though she’s in one of her ‘I hate the world’ moods.  Not your fault though, a nasty customer got to her.”  Sarah disappeared into the backroom.

Rik and Jo were engaged in a conversation about the upcoming tour when Emily walked up.  Sneaking behind Jo, she grabbed her.  Jo nearly fell off the stool she was sitting on.  Turning she gathered her lover in her arms.  “You okay to go home?”  She asked.  Emily looked at her friends and received a nod.  With that, she and Jo left the store with a promise to call later.

Once at home, Jo showed her the package.  Emily started crying.  She couldn’t hold the tears any longer.  Everything finally caught up with her and she just let loose.  Jo held her while the dam burst.  Rocking her love gently, she cooed soothing words of love in her ear.  Picking up her precious love, she carried her to their room.

Placing her down on the bed, she climbed in behind and curled around her.  Emily turned slightly and sought her lover’s lips.  The two met in a hungry kiss, letting the passion consume them.  Tongues vied for space in the other’s mouth as hands rapidly stripped away the annoying barrier of clothes.  Each let out a moan of pleasure as skin slid against skin.  Large, talented hands began their exploration of smooth firm flesh.

They broke their kiss for much needed breath.  Jo used the opportunity to attach her lips to her lover’s soft neck.  Emily wound her fingers in dark locks and held her lover close.  Jo’s hand had a mind of their own as they slid to cup firm buttocks.  She pulled her lover close.  The two began their dance of passion, each moving harder and faster against the other.  Jo pulled away and slid down to her lover’s chest.  Taking first one, then the other nipple into her mouth, she used teeth and tongue to bring them to hard points.

Sliding further down, she kissed along her lover’s abdomen just reaching the top of golden curls glistening with passion’s nectar.  Emily grabbed hold of the sheets as she heard Jo growl.  She felt the first soft kiss upon her damp center and moaned loudly.  Jo, hearing the sound, drove her tongue in.  Using long, slow licks, she gathered as much of the sweet nectar as possible.  Her tongue traced the smooth opening before plunging in as deep as possible.  Emily’s hips left the bed and Jo had to hold on tight.

In and out Jo’s tongue plunged.  She could sense that her lover was getting close.  Withdrawing her tongue, she circled Emily’s clit.  Slow torturous circles, over and over again.  “Uhnn, yes…. Yes… more… harder…” Emily moaned.  Her breathing was ragged and her body held the tremors of mini orgasms.  Grabbing her lover’s hips Jo circled her clit one last time.  Pulling it into her mouth she moved her tongue as fast as possible over the sensitive bud.  Emily arched and her body went stiff.  “JJJOOOOOOOOOO!!!”  She screamed as she fell over the edge into blissful abandon.

Jo slowed her tongue’s movements and drew out the orgasm as Emily lay shaking.  She climbed up and held her lover close as the waves faded.  “I love you so much.”  She whispered.  When she finally calmed down, Emily turned to kiss her lover.  Tasting her own juices on her lover’s tongue inflamed her desire and soon she was on top.  She wasted no time, as she descended on firm breasts.  Teasing one then the other she quickly moved down.

Placing her mouth where she most desired, Jo’s hips rose from the bed.  Her head fell back as she felt her lover’s tongue moving over her swollen sex.  Emily moved her tongue in tight circles over her clit.  Moving one hand up, she entered Jo with first one, then two fingers.  Moving slowly at first, she pushed in and out as her tongue continued its dance.  Jo’s head moved side to side and her hands were curled into fists.  Sensing her lover’s impending orgasm, Emily sped up her movements.  Moments later, Jo screamed her release into the air.  “EEMMIILLYYYYYY!!!”  Emily crawled up her lover’s spent form and curled around her.  Completely satisfied, the two drifted off to peaceful slumber.

**************

            *ring *ring

            “D’Amour Books.”

“Yes, may I speak with Erika Rozwel?”  Came a female voice.

“One moment, may I ask who’s calling?”

“An old friend.”  There was a brief pause before the phone was picked up again.

“This is Erika Rozwel.”  Rik said.

“Ah, it is you.”  Came a smooth voice.

            “Yeah.  Who is this?”

“Never mind who I am.  I have some information that would interest you and your friends.  I’ll drop by the store with it.  Just think of me as an old friend.”  The line went dead, leaving Rik holding the receiver with a puzzled expression.  Replacing the phone, she went back to work.  She didn’t give another thought to the strange call until around closing.  Going to lock the front doors, she noticed an envelope stuck between them.  Grabbing it, she locked the doors and headed to the back room.

Sarah was busy doing the cash count for the day.  Missy, their new hiree, was working on the inventory sheets.  Rik sat at her desk and opened the envelope.  Inside were a note and a folder.  Reading the note, she gasped.  Sarah paused what she was doing and went over.  Reading the note herself, she looked to her lover who shrugged.  “Where’d you get this?”  She inquired.

“Someone called earlier and then I found this stuck between the front doors.”  Rik replied.  They finished their tasks and left the store.  They stopped at the bank for the deposit, and then headed home.  Opening the door, Sarah screamed and clung to her lover for dear life.  Rik looked past her love and saw what had caused the scream.  Reaching into her pocket, she called Detective DeLitto.

            “Detective DeLitto here.”

“Liza, this is Rik.  Can you come over to our apartment?  We need you to see something now.  Someone’s been here… I suspect our nemesis.”  Liza agreed and hung up.  Rik handed her lover the phone and stepped inside.  “I’m gonna see if there’s anything else.  You stay here.”  She stated.  Sarah nodded mutely.  After Rik disappeared in the apartment, she dialed.

“Hey, you’ve reached Knyte’s Domain.  Jo and Emily can’t get to the phone right now, but please leave a message. Beep”

“Hey guys, come on.  If you’re there pick up, please.”  Sarah cried into the phone.

“Huh, Sarah?  What’s wrong hon?”  Emily said as she picked up the phone.

“Em, come over now… Please come…” A loud thud was heard, then the phone hitting the ground.

“Sarah.  Sarah!!”  Emily screamed into the phone.

“I’m here.  I’m scared.  I heard a loud noise inside the apartment and Rik is in there.  I want to go in, but I’m scared, please hurry.”  Emily said she was on her way and then hung up.  She ran into the bedroom looking for Jo.  She found her in the shower.

Pulling the shower door open, she practically screamed at her lover.  “We need to get over to Rik and Sarah’s now, something’s happened.”  Emily was near hysterics.  Jo turned off the shower and grabbed her towel.  Drying quickly, she rushed to get dressed and they were out the door.  They failed to see the dark figure waiting in the bushes.

They ran to the car and raced over to their friends’ place.  Parking the car, the two ran up the stairs to find Sarah sitting by the open apartment door shaking.  Emily ran to her and gathered her up.  Jo trudged past and entered the apartment.  She moved from room to room, until she reached the bedroom.  She found Erika sprawled out on the floor unmoving.  She ran over to her and checked for a pulse.  Finding one, she called to her fallen friend.  Rik mumbled something and struggled to get up.  Jo helped her to sit.

“Thanks.  I came in here and saw someone trying to get out the window.  I ran for them and they hit me with something.  They sure rang my bell.”  Rik managed to get out as she rubbed her head.  She was a bit dizzy and as she tried to stand, she blacked out again.  Jo picked her up and carried her out to the hall.  Detective DeLitto arrived just as she was putting Rik down next to Sarah.  Rah handed the envelope they received earlier to Liza.

“Oh Gawd.  Is she ok?”  Liza asked.  Jo nodded and explained what had happened.  Liza said she would need to speak with Rik when she was able.  Two uniformed officers were behind her as she entered the apartment.  Immediately inside the door, she saw a gruesome site.  On the floor just inside the door, lay a mannequin head lying in a pool of fake blood.  It was a perfect likeness of Joana Knyte.  In the living room a picture of Erika was taped to the wall with a knife through it.  Three words were written in fake blood across the wall beneath the picture.  ‘Dawn is coming.’  Liza had the officers seal the scene and take pictures of everything.  Forensics was sent in after to gather whatever evidence might be found.

Everyone went to Jo and Emily’s for the night.    Jo called Jocelyn when they arrived back at the house and told her what happened.  She also told her to announce to the press that the tour would be delayed until further notice due to personal issues.  Jocelyn agreed and passed her love and support and said that she would meet with her in the morning.  Jo thanked her and hung up.  Making sure their guests were settled, she went to the bedroom and joined her love in bed.  Needless to say, no one slept well that night.

************

Two Weeks Later…

Glancing at the clock, Jo adjusted her shirt for the hundredth time.  Jocelyn laughed at her friend’s antics.  “Relax Jo.  Remember you agreed to do this signing to promote the new album.  The tour is months off.  Take a deep breath.  I’ll be right next to you and Em, Erin, Rah, and Rik are here too.  Remember this is their bookstore.  Of course you are in the music section.”  Jocelyn chuckled again and led her to the table.  Jo took a seat and motioned to open the doors.  Fans of all ages filed in and lined up immediately.

Em stood gazing at her lover as she fell right back into ‘I’m a star’ mode.  It had been two weeks since the major fiasco at Rik’s apartment.  Nothing had happened since and everything seemed to be going okay.  The line moved along steadily as Jo chatted with her fans and signed the record.  Rah and Rik were extremely busy with customers and Erin was trying to run the registers single-handedly.  Emily went to the counter and decided to help her swamped friend.  “Hey, need a hand?”  She chuckled.  Erin gave her a grateful look as she opened the other register.

“Ms. Knyte will be taking a break for lunch, but she will return in an hour.”  Joce’s voice rang out above the crowd.  Several disappointed sighs and cries were heard as she led Jo away.  Jo was grateful for a break from her fans.  The pair walked into the back room, where Jo slumped down in the nearest chair.  “I’ll go pick up the food.”  Joce said as she left the room.  Jo leaned back and closed her eyes.

“Hey lover.”  Jo opened her eyes to see Emily leaning over her.  Giving her love a kiss, she sat up.

“Hey.  How’s it going out there?”  She asked.

“Fine.  Business is booming today.  It’s calmed down a little for the moment, so I decided to come see how you were doing.”  Emily said as she rubbed her love’s back.

“Well, I’m doing okay.  I had forgotten just how adamant fans could be.”  She chuckled.  Joce returned with food for everyone a short while later.  After eating, Joce excused herself for a moment.  Everyone else sat in the office chitchatting about this and that.  Joce went to the front of the store in search of a book she had been reading earlier.  A soft tapping on glass interrupted her search.

Turning, she saw Liza and smiled.  Opening the door, she allowed her inside and locked the door behind her.  “Hey.  I have some news for everyone.”  Liza stated, pointing to her briefcase.  Joce nodded and led her to the back room.   Everyone welcomed her in.  Jo, Rik and Joce offered their chairs to her.  The other’s laughed at the chivalrous trio.  Liza smiled and took the one offered by Joce.  Joce turned and stuck her tongue out at the other two.  That brought about another round of laughter.

After everyone settled down, she began: “I have been working almost non-stop on your case and have some interesting information to pass along.  I have found out that she is in the area, but she keeps hopping from hotel to hotel.  With her being quiet for the past couple of weeks, makes me a little suspicious.  Anyhow, I have taken the liberty of going to the local clubs to see if anyone had seen her.  I had luck there.”

“You mean she is still around?”  Rah and Em spoke in unison.  Liza nodded.

“It seems people have seen her a couple of times with another woman.  They hadn’t seen her before, but they heard Colleen call her ‘Sam’.  I’m not sure how she fits into this, but I’m sure it’s not good.”  Liza said.

“I know.”  Everyone turned to Erin with shock evident on each of their faces.  “I think I know who Sam is, but I can be sure if I had a picture.”  Liza smiled and reached into her case.  Handing a photo to Erin, she waited.  Erin nodded and shook her head.  “It’s her alright.”  She got up and moved to look out the window.  Everyone waited to see what she would say next.  Taking a deep breath, she continued: “I used to follow the wrong crowd.  The druggies, low-time thugs, and the like made up my crowd.  Anywhos, I used to hear about this one woman.  They called her ‘BykeDyke’.  She was all tough stuff; black leather, steel-toe boots, black shades, chains, and a Harley.  Everyone feared her.  It was rumored that she was an assassin for hire.  Well, one night when we were hanging out at a party, she showed up.  She definitely caught my eye.  She was all muscle and really tall.  Anyhow, I found out her name was Sam.  I never saw her again after that night, but I know her on sight.”  Erin sat back down and lowered her head.  “If she’s with Cole, then this is very bad.  Sam is worse than bad news.  Sam is amazing in her fighting skills and she’s sly.”  Erin ran from the room and out of the store.  Everyone stared in shock.

Liza became suspicious; there was something Erin was holding back, but what?  Jo looked at the clock and she and Em went to the table to finish her signing day.  Rik and Rah went back to the registers.  Missy went to help the customers.  Joce escorted Liza out to her car.  “For what its worth, I’m not going to stop till I catch this slippery bitch.”  She offered.  Joce nodded.

“I know, but please be careful.”  Joce spoke in a whisper.  Liza smiled and got in her car.  ‘I care about you.  I think I’m falling for you Liza, please watch yourself.’  Joce thought as she watched the car drive away.  Sighing, she went back inside.
