Love Conquers All!

Disclaimer and a note from da’ Batgyrl:  Hey all!  Um, this story takes place after "The Quest."  If two women together bothers ya, tough knickerbockers!

This past week has been dreadful.  First Xena dies, then her soul returns in Autolycus’ body (and in mine, at one point),  and then I had to fight some psychotic Amazon for the ambrosia that would bring Xena back to life.  I’m telling you, it’s been a rough week!  I guess it all paid off in the end because I got Xena back.  Here, let me start from the beginning.

It all started the day after I gave the ambrosia to Xena.  I woke that morning with a smile on my face and immediately looked about for Xena, but she wasn’t there.  She was sitting on a log next to the lake, skipping rocks.  Judging by the look on her face, she had gotten no sleep.  I sat down beside her and wrapped both of us up in my blanket.  I held her close and she did likewise.  She just looked at me and smiled.  No words, just those beautiful blue eyes.  Xena looked happy, but something was troubling her.  It looked as if she wanted to say something, but couldn’t find the words.  We sat there for a while, until she finally turned to me and held my face, her hands gently caressing my cheeks.

"Gabrielle, when I died and was crossing over, all I could think about was you.  You made me want to fight and come back to life.  I didn’t realize what I had until it was gone.  Gabrielle, that something was you.  I just couldn’t bear losing you again.  There is something I would like to ask you, but I’ll understand completely if you say no.  Just hear me out first, ok?"

"Ok, Xena."

As I sat there waiting for her to continue, I suddenly became nervous.  She stood up from the log and turned away from me.  It looked as though she was reaching for something in her pocket.  I couldn’t tell what it was, though.  She turned back around to face me with a box in her hand.

" Here, Gabrielle, open it."

"Oh, Xena, it’s so beautiful!  Where did you get it?  What is it made out of...?"

"Gabrielle, it doesn’t matter, what does matter is that I want you to have this ring..."

My first thought was What a thoughtful gift, but upon closer examination I noticed something inscribed on the inside of the band.  It read, "I love thee, Gabrielle."  After reading the inscription I looked up at Xena only to find her kneeling before me, holding my left hand.  Tears started welling up in my eyes.  Before I could say a word, Xena stopped me.

"I love you, Gabrielle.  I would do anything for you, even if it meant giving up my life for yours.  You know that I’m not good at this sort of stuff, so I’ll just come out and say it.  Gabrielle, will you marry me?"

Was this it, I thought.  All of my dreams were coming true.  All this time, I felt as if I were the only one feeling this way, but I was mistaken.  I was so happy and excited, that all I could say was, "I thought you’d never ask!  I love you, Xena!"

We were filled with happiness and joy.  Tears welled up in our eyes and we embraced each other.  As we parted from our embrace, she caressed my face with her calloused fingers.  For the first time, we each knew what the other was thinking and feeling.  We were as one person from that moment on.  She tilted her head downward until our lips met in passion and in love for the first time.  As our lips separated, we both said I love you and held each other while the watching the sunrise to create a new and glorious day.

We were married later the next month in Poteidaia.  Xena insisted on having the wedding where my family was.  Cyrene and many other people from all over the land, traveled to my little town to see the all-mighty warrior princess get married and settle down.  (Xena?  Settle down?  As if!)  The wedding wasn’t very big, but the celebration afterwards was one of the best ever seen by anyone.  I know, in my heart, that our love will last forever and that my thoughts on love were right after all.  Love is the most powerful force on earth.  Love truly does conquer all!
